  • Patent number: 7257897
Abstract: A cutting device for trimming a coiled strand, such as an arterial, urinary or other intraluminal stent made from metal or plastic wire, has a pair of articulating arms connected at a pivot joint. One of the arms has a holding jaw for holding the coiled strand. A second of the arms has a jaw with a cutter. The holding jaw has a passageway through which the coiled strand may be threaded to aid in holding the coiled strand for cutting by the cutter. The holding jaw preferably has a guide channel formed by a pair of tapered walls that slide between adjacent turns of the coiled strand. In accordance with a method of the invention, an end of the coiled strand is introduced through the passageway in the holding jaw. The coiled strand is rotated to advance the coiled strand through the passageway until the coiled strand is positioned beneath the cutting jaw at the selected location. The lever portions and the jaw portions are then urged together, cutting the coiled strand at the selected location.

  • Patent number: 5241752
Abstract: A pole-mounted pruning tool having a shank adapted to support a cutting implement in a disposition suitable for severing a branch or the like. The shank merges into a hook having a jaw. The hook has a slot through which a cutting blade pivots during a pruning operation, the cutting blade cooperating with the jaw to severe a limb to be trimmed. The cutting blade biasing member, which urges the blade into a normally open position outside the bight of the jaw, is substantially received in a recess of the shank so that the pruning tool is less susceptible to becoming caught in congested foliage areas during pruning operations.

  • Patent number: 5237751
Abstract: Apparatus for tipping a horn of a horned animal by removing a selected portion thereof. A positioning member having an aperture which extends between first and second side surfaces thereof is pivotally mounted to a cutting member having a cutting edge formed along a first side surface thereof. The aperture is defined by an inner side surface of the positioning member which includes a first, inwardly tapered, portion and a second, untapered, portion. When the positioning member is placed over the horn, first and second edge surfaces which define first and second boundaries of the inwardly tapered portion circumferentially bite into the horn at first and second locations, respectively. The cutting member is then pivoted towards the positioning member to sever the selected portion of the horn. The cutting member is comprised of a support member having a cut-away portion and a blade member flush mounted in the cut-away portion of the support member.

  • Patent number: 5065516
Abstract: disassemblable scissors which utilizes a releasable pivot joint between pivotable scissor halves. The pivot joint is formed in the scissor halves between the blades and the handles of the scissor. The scissors halves are pivotally retained together over a range of cutting motions by a retaining assembly. The retaining assembly retains a portion of one of the scissors halves movably within a retaining portion of the other of said scissors halves at least over the range of cutting motions. To release and disassemble the scissors, the scissors halves must be pivoted at least past the range of cutting motions to a point where the portion of the one scissor half is no longer retained by the retaining portion of the other scissors half. In this position, the two halves can be transversely pulled apart.

  • Patent number: 5046252
Abstract: A cutter for optical fibers includes upper and lower frames pivotally connected at their ends pivotally movably relative to each other, a cutting blade provided on the upper frame for cutting optical fibers and supporting device provided on the lower frame for supporting an optical fiber to be cut. The upper frame includes a regulating device for moving the cutting blade in its longitudinal direction and stopping and fixing the cutting blade and a confirming device for visibly confirming a position where the cutting blade is fixed. With this arrangement, there is no need for exchanging of cutting blades every cutting of a fiber. Moreover, a cutting blade portion to be used can be visibly identified and it can be prevented to use again once used cutting edge portion of the cutting blade.

Abstract: An apparatus for cutting aluminum siding or like articles includes a movable blade and a pair of fixed blades between which the movable blade is mounted to pivot. The fixed blades are each mounted on a rail that is rigidly connected to a flexible base member. An adjustment bolt is provided for exerting force between the rails. Force from the adjustment bolt causes the base member to deflect, thereby permitting the distance between the fixed blades to be varied. A second feature includes the provision of different sets of fixed blades, each configured to conform to a different type of siding. A novel movable blade is also provided.

  • Patent number: RE39286
Abstract: A cutting device especially designed for cutting up salad greens includes two blades, a rib and handles. The two blades are inter-secured to rotate together about a common axis, but are spaced apart from each other along the common axis. The rib is pivotably secured to the two blades so as to rotate about the common axis, and is curved in a direction of rotation so as to have a concave surface. The handles are integrated with the two blades and the rib to control the two blades and the rib to rotate simultaneously between open and closed positions. The concave surface of the rib is the lead surface when moving from the open position to the closed position, and the cutting edges of the two blades cross edges of the concave surface when moving from the open position to the closed position, so as to perform a cutting action.
