Abstract: A pair of scissors with an open second handle includes a first blade and a second blade pivotally connected by a pivot member. A first grip portion of the first handle surrounds the basal portion of a user's thumb, the thumb extends out of an inserting hole of the first blade in a lateral direction and presses against a first extension section, so that the user can hold the first grip portion with the thumb without bending too much at the wrist, thus enhancing stability of holding the scissors. The user's middle, ring and little fingers press against the grip section of the second handle, and the index finger rests against the second extension section. Besides, since the second grip portion is an open structure, the fingers of the user are supported but not restricted by the second grip portion, which improves stability and flexibility when using the scissors.

Abstract: A piercing tip assembly has two piercing tips, each having two sets of piercing and shearing edges. The tip is reversible so that the tip can be detached from the shears, its orientation changed, and replaced on the shears so a fresh, sharp set of piercing and shearing edges is exposed during use. The tips are reverse by rotating each tip and replacing the tip mounted on the right side of the jaw, and switching the tip on the left side of the jaw to the right side, and the tip on the right side of the jaw to the left side. The piercing tip assembly protects a substantial portion of the upper jaw of a metal shears from wear.

Abstract: A pair of scissors has two elements that are cross-wise rotationally movably assembled in a hinge, each of said elements consisting of a blade and an arm. The arms each terminate in a ring for a user's finger. The general direction of the blades and the arms in a closed position of the scissors is making an angle large enough to place both rings on the same side of an extension line of the general direction of the blades. The blades are curved and have different lengths and heights, the upper blade being the shorter and higher and optionally provided with a protruding nose part, and the lower blade is relatively narrow and provided with a bulb shaped tip and a chamfered and/or rounded inner edge said distal end of said back edge of said upper blade has a nose part protruding a distance (n1) from the distal end of the cutting edge of the upper blade and having a distance (n2) from the cutting edge of the lower blade in a closed position of the scissors.

Abstract: A tool for cutting/crimping a workpiece, such as a cable, includes an automatic rapid blade advance such that a blade on a movable jaw of the tool advances toward cutting the cable every time the handles of the tool are closed. The automatic rapid blade advance also advances the blade on the movable jaw toward cutting the cable every time the handles of the tool are opened up until the blade on the movable jaw first encounters a resistive force from the cable. The tool also includes an automatic blade return such that the blade on the movable jaw will automatically return to its original position after the blade has cut through or crimped the cable.

Abstract: This invention describes a hand operated, end cutting, sheet metal shear that makes cuts perpendicular to the axis of the tool handle. The shearing surfaces consist of a moving shear blade with a fixed rake angle and shear angle, cutting along a blunt anvil. The shear blade is pivotally mounted to the tool body and actuated by a toggle linkage and a movable handle. A stroke adjustment screw is incorporated into the fixed handle.

Abstract: The invention relates to scissors. Hitherto scissors have been formed with rigid and identical handles to allow use in either hand, but with some discomfort to the user, or with handles specifically shaped to suit a right-handed or a left-handed user, but not both. The object of the invention is to provide a pair of scissors able to be used in comfort by both right-handed and left-handed users, an objective met by a construction comprising blades and associated handles pivotally secured together, the handles forming respective finger and thumb bows that are symmetrical about the center plane at the mid-point through their thickness, at least one (thumb) bow being formed as a rigid structure from the forward end towards the pivot to a point along the length of that bow, from where the at least one (thumb) bow has a rearward part formed from a form-stable but resilient and/or flexible material.

  • Patent number: 6176866
Abstract: A scissor comprises a rigid blade with a fixed shape and an adjustable spring blade both pinned together at the end of the blade portions. The blades also comprise elongated leg portions extending outwardly from the junction with the blade portions and terminating in curved finger loops or a manipulating handle. The adjustable spring blade comprises a blade with spring like properties of the cutting edge which is continuously maintained in rotation around the fixed axis of the non-cutting edge of said rigid blade. When the scissors are open, the line of the cutting edge of the spring blade penetrates the plane of the opposing blade. This penetration stops when the scissors are closed. The rotation of the spring blade cutting edge may be clockwise or counter-clockwise but is always directed towards the sharp edge of the opposing blade of the scissors and thus continuously engages the sharp edge of the opposing blade at the cutting point.
