With Blade Moving Means Patents (Class 30/272.1)
  • Publication number: 20020178589
Abstract: A battery-powered carving knife is shown having a housing and a switch which connects and disconnects a battery to a motor. A drive mechanism including a worm gear together with a cam member causes reciprocation of reciprocating blade mounts to reciprocate back and forth in an out of phase fashion. The motor is positioned forward within the housing in motor receiving section, with the drive shaft of the motor facing rearwardly. The blade mounts are driven by the motor, and reciprocate in a position below the motor. The motor and blade mounts are positioned in front of a handgrip section, thereby improving the ergonomics of the device. Alternatively, the drive shaft can be positioned facing forward.

  • Patent number: 6442844
Abstract: A cutting knife for a cutting tool for cutting through adhesive beads on glass panes of vehicles is disclosed having a cross section that is bent into a U-shape and comprises a first limb, configured as an attachment part, with a receiving opening for attachment to an oscillating drive, and a second limb that is configured as a cutting part and is joined via an intermediate part to the attachment part of the cutting knife. The intermediate part and the cutting part being shaped such that a distance exists in a radial direction between a center point of the receiving opening and at least one cutting edge. The cutting part has, in a middle region between its outer free end and its angled transition to the intermediate part, a width that is greater than the width at the transition.

The cutting part has, in a middle region between its outer free end and its angled transition to the intermediate part, a lesser width than at the transition and at the outer end. This results in a reduced susceptibility to breakage.

  • Patent number: 6427339
Abstract: An electrical metal cutting device including a housing having a generally L-shaped configuration. The housing has a hollow interior. The housing has a horizontally disposed upper portion and a vertically disposed lower portion. The upper portion has an open outer end. A motor is disposed within the upper portion of the housing. The motor is couplable with an outside power source. A power cylindrical bore is disposed within the upper portion of the housing inwardly of the open outer end thereof. The power cylindrical bore has a shaft extending inwardly therefrom. The shaft has a free end coupling with the motor. The power cylindrical bore has an open outer end. A power piston is slidably positioned within the open outer end of the power cylindrical bore. The power piston has an outer end extending outwardly of the open outer end of the upper portion of the housing. The power piston has an opening in its outer end. A cutting blade is secured within the opening in the outer end of the power piston.

  • Patent number: 6401342
Abstract: A cutting knife is provided for a cutting tool for severing cement beads of window panes that are cemented in motor vehicles. The cutting knife is formed from a flat material which is bent into the shape of an U. The knife comprises a cutting portion forming one leg of the U, a securement portion forming the other leg of the U, and an intermediate bridge that connects the cutting portion with the securement portion. The securement portion is provided at its free end with an opening for securing the knife to an oscillatory drive unit of the cutting tool and tapers from this securement opening toward the intermediate bridge. In one embodiment, the securement portion is provided with a curved section at the end adjacent the intermediate bridge. In another embodiment, the cutting portion has a cross-section with a central section that is defined by two parallel surfaces. A serrated or saw-like cutting edge is preferably provided on the cutting portion.

  • Publication number: 20020032966
Abstract: A transmission for a trimmer/mower can be easily mounted onto a bearing housing of a trimmer/mower. The trimmer/mower has a vertically extending drive shaft and the transmission has a worm gear drive assembly that is drivingly connected to the drive shaft to provide an output shaft extending substantially horizontally. The worm gear drive assembly enables speed reduction and torque conversion that increases the speed of rotation and torque of the output shaft as compared with that of the input shaft. Attachments to be used on the trimmer/mower that operate in a substantially vertical plane can be mounted on the output shaft. Further, existing trimmer/mower can be retrofit with a bearing housing to which the transmission can be quickly and easily mounted. The mounting of the transmission onto the bearing housing can be accomplished without the need for tools by providing a twist-on mounting arrangement with a rotation prevention lock having a simple construction.

  • Patent number: 6345445
Abstract: A tool for performing lopping, pruning and similar operations includes a tool support, a tool head, an actuating line and an actuating handle. The tool support preferably includes a pair of telescoping tubes and the tool head includes a blade movable to perform cutting operations. The blade is coupled to the actuating line and remotely movable by tensioning the actuating line. The actuating line passes through a portion of the tool support to the actuating handle. The actuating handle includes a line engagement mechanism or clutch assembly that engages and holds the line when the actuating handle is slid on the tool support. The tool is actuated by a first movement of the actuating handle that causes the engagement mechanism to engage the actuating line, followed by a second movement that tensions the line to move the blade. A reel mechanism below the engagement mechanism collects the actuating line when the tool support is retracted and dispenses line when the tool support is extended.

  • Patent number: 6185826
Abstract: An electrically operated slicing knife includes an axially movable switch guard overlying the switch of the knife. The switch guard is movable to a first position whereat the switch is uncovered and a second position whereat the switch is covered to prevent a user from actuating the switch. A pair of user actuated buttons control ejection of the blade of the knife. When the buttons are in a first position, the blade is locked relative to the knife handle, and the switch guard when positioned to uncover the knife switch maintains the buttons in their locked position. When the switch guard is moved to cover the switch, the buttons can be actuated by a user to unlock the blades from the knife handle.
