Abstract: A device for opening an envelope is disclosed. In the envelope opening device of the present invention, when a user merely inserts an edge part of an envelope into a guide slot of a casing and pushes or pulls the envelope, the edge part of the envelope is precisely cut by a cutting means to a predetermined length while the edge part is supported and guided by a guide wall, which is provided inside the guide slot, and while the envelope is held and supported by a holding means such that it is prevented from undesirably moving. Therefore, the present invention makes it possible to precisely cut the edge part of the envelope to a minimum length. Furthermore, because the present invention does not require the user to pay much attention to the length of the edge part to be cut, there is an advantage in that the opening process is simplified.

Abstract: A fruit and vegetable peeler which is driven by a small rotary power tool. An arbor is detachably mounted in the power tool for rotating a fruit or vegetable against a sharp cutting blade. The cutting blade is positioned relative to the fruit or vegetable by a steady rest on the handle. The blade has a narrow elongated front cutting portion and a spaced apart narrow elongated rear portion which pivotally attached to the handle. During the peeling of the fruit or vegetable, the steady rest maintains the position of the blade relative to the fruit or vegetable. In a first aspect of the invention, the steady rest is an integral portion of the handle and has a fixed spatial relationship to the blade. In a second aspect, the steady rest is attached to the handle and its position on the handle is selectively adjustable to accommodate large differences in the size and shape of fruits or vegetables. In a third aspect, a pair of blades and steady rests are provided on a common handle.

Abstract: A hand operated trimmer for trimming an edge of vinyl, carpet or the like being installed on a floor so that the cut edge of the floor covering will lie closely against an adjacent wall. The trimmer comprises an elongate base member and an integral cutting blade. The base member has a generally triangularly shaped cross section, with two of the elongate external surfaces of the base member meeting at a right angle, and the elongate external surface opposite the right angle being a concave surface. The cutting blade is mounted closely adjacent the concave surface and in a substantially perpendicular relationship thereto. Pressure applying rollers are spaced a slight distance from the concave surface so as to define a vinyl-receiving entry location for a vinyl sheet to pass in a longitudinal direction along the concave surface, with the pressure applying rollers serving to keep the vinyl sheet in close contact with the concave surface.

Abstract: A powered circular saw blade on a vertical shaft is supported on a slide which is slideably mounted on a guideway having feet to enable moving the assembly around on a building sub-floor. The feet are adjustable to enable raising or lowering the guideway base and, thereby, the saw blade. A blade guard is affixed to the guideway base and shaped to admit the saw assembly to an inside corner of a building room. The blade is normally retracted behind the blade guard but can be advanced to position ahead of the guard as the guard is braced against a door jamb or the like and the slide is pushed toward the door jamb to advance the blade into cutting position. Immediately upon release of the advancing force manually applied, a return spring returns the blade to retracted protected position.

  • Patent number: 5946808
Abstract: This invention is directed to a device designed to cut or score floor covering materials such as vinyl, linoleum, carpet and other sheet goods. The device has a metal base with a straight edge located on the front and rear portions of the meal base. Stabilizing members fixed to the top surface of the metal base provide a support for positioning pins which hold the metal base to the carpet. When cutting vinyl of linoleum floor coverings, the positioning pins are adjusted upward and the non-slip rubber coating on the bottom surface of the metal base prevents the straight edge from moving. A first guided track is fixed to the top surface of the metal base between the front portion of the metal base and the stabilizing members. The first guided; track has a channel designed to receive a cutting member. The cutting member has a vinyl knife or a carpet knife mounted to a second guided track. The cutting member is available in a right handed version and a left handed version.

  • Patent number: 5852877
Abstract: A belt skiving apparatus and method in which a free-standing blade-carrying carriage is employed which does not require a guiding base. The carriage has a pair of rollers defining a nip into which a belt end to be skived is passed. The rollers press together about the belt end to securely grip the belt. One of the rollers is toothed to provide a non-slip engagement with the surface of the belt and at least one of the rollers is driven, preferably manually, through a crank arm. Rotation of the rollers advances the carriage relative to the belt to advance the carriage across the width of the belt. As the carriage is advanced, the belt is passed through the rollers and through a cutting blade disposed adjacent the rollers. As the carriage is advanced along the width of the belt, the blade slices a thin strip of the upper portion of the belt adjacent its upper face from the remainder of the belt. The thin strip that is removed is the portion of the belt that was punctured by the teeth of the driving roller.

Abstract: A drywall measuring and cutting tool has a guide riding the edge of a sheet of drywall and, normal thereto, a graduated rod. A knife is fastened to the rod, and can be rotated for shallow or deep cuts. The guide has an opening through which passes the graduated rod. Idle rod length thus projects away from the knife, avoiding interference with the floor of a drywall truck when cutting drywall carried by the truck. When making repeated narrow scores, measurement and addition of numbers possibly including fractions are avoided by aligning graduation marks with score lines. Adjusting for new width cuts is performed without tools. The knife is adjustable for right or left hand operation.
