An expanded portion of the slot engaging the slider assembly allows the blade to be received in a holder and ejected only when the slider assembly fully disengages from the expanded portion, thereby generating no sudden ejection of the blade. Additionally, a safety latch securely locks the blade when the blade is fully retracted. Abstract: A safety scalpel incorporating a handle similar in thickness, length, weight, balance, shape and feel to the conventional metal handle preferred by most surgeons, and a disposable cartridge assembly that is easily mounted and released from the scalpel handle. The handle comprises a first end and a second end. The cartridge assembly comprises a blade guard/shield that can be slideably mounted onto the second end of the handle, a blade holder/slider that can be disposed within the blade guard, and a blade that can be attached to the blade holder. The safety scalpel incorporates a locking system that prevents the cartridge assembly from sliding off or wobbling on the handle during use.

Abstract: A folding knife (or tool) having opposing handle halves and at least one knife blade (or tool) pivotally attached there between by an adjustable pivot. The adjustable pivot is configured to rigidly connect the opposing handle halves at the pivot point under load from fully tightened fasteners. The distance between opposing handle halves is both adjustable and rigidly fixable, resulting in improved assembly resistance to deflection from shear and torsion loads and reduced tendency of the blade (or tool) to loosen under hard use.

  • Patent number: 8549755
Abstract: A compact utility knife includes a blade holder slidably connected to a handle. A trapezoidal utility blade detachably mounts to the blade holder via a blade lock mechanism. A slide lock mechanism selectively retains the blade holder in its extended or retracted position relative to the handle. When the blade holder is extended, the blade holder and a majority of the blade extend forwardly of a forwardmost point of the handle. Extending the blade holder significantly increases an overall length of the knife such that the knife is comfortable to use when in the extended position and longitudinally compact when in the retracted position. The knife includes a blade lock mechanism. An aperture in the front of the handle creates a gap between the blade and the handle to discourage debris on the blade from transferring to the handle when the blade is retracted.

Abstract: A knife having a body and a slide member slideable in the body. The slide member engages a blade assembly that is arranged to move with the slide member. The slide member is movable to position the blade assembly at a position of use and a release position wherein the blade assembly can be released from the slide member. The slide member is movable to retract the blade assembly into the knife body. The knife also includes an actuator member that can be actuated to move the slide member to a disengaged configuration wherein the blade assembly can be disengaged from the slide member to permit the release therefrom. The positioning of the blade assembly at the release position and subsequent movement of the slide member to the disengaged configuration by actuation of the actuator member releases the blade assembly from the slide member.
