Abstract: A scissor is made more ergonomic and comfortable to use by the addition to the upper loop handle of the scissor of an enlarged handle portion that fits into and can be held in the palm of a user's hand without the user's thumb passing through the loop handle. One or more of the user's fingers are passed through the lower loop handle in normal manner to operate the scissor. The enlarged handle portion may be secured to the upper loop handle of existing scissors or scissors may be manufactured with the enlarged handle portion included rather than or in addition to the normal loop handle. As an add on, the enlarged handle portion may include two halves secured together to capture and hold a portion of the upper loop between the halves to thereby secure the enlarged handle portion to the upper loop handle.

  • Patent number: 5722171
Abstract: In scissors, particularly hairdresser's scissors, with two scissor blades (1, 2), connected to each other in articulated fashion by means of a single pivot (3), and two scissor handles (4, 5), each of which displays two handle sections (28, 29) and (30, 31), where the first handle section (28, 30) is connected to its corresponding scissor blade (1, 2) and the second handle section (29, 31) includes the end grip of the scissor handle (4 or 5), and where the two corresponding handle sections are connected to each other in articulated fashion to permit pivoting in the plane of the handle, it is envisaged that the two handle sections can be locked in various angular positions in relation to each other in order to allow optimum ergonomic setting, and that locking takes place in the articulated connection of the handle sections.

  • Patent number: 5720103
Abstract: A pair of self-opening scissors or shears, or an attachment which can be used with conventionally designed scissors or shears, particularly of the kind used by barbers or the like. The invention uses a pair of inserts for the finger holes of the scissors, connected by a band of an elastic material which serves to provide a self-opening force. The inserts fit into the finger holes, simultaneously holding the elastic band and reducing the size of the finger holes for smaller hands. The self-opening finger inserts of the invention can be used with existing scissors, or built into new scissors at time of manufacture without requiring major redesign or changes in manufacture. The scissors with the invention will reduce repetitive motion injury while remaining conventional in shape and feel.

Abstract: A dry shaving apparatus includes a housing, at least one short-hair cutter, a long-hair trimmer that is pivotally-mounted to the housing such that the long-hair trimmer can pivot into and out of an operating position, an electric drive mechanism which during operation drives said short-hair cutter and said long-hair trimmer, a pivotally-mounted lever, a control rod, and a single control switch mechanism which during operation moves the long-hair trimmer into and out of the operating position and turns the electric drive mechanism on and off, the control switch mechanism being coupled to the long-hair trimmer by the pivotally mounted lever and the control rod and having an ON position and a first and second OFF position. The control switch mechanism in the first OFF position deactivates the long-hair trimmer and maintains the long hair trimmer in the operating position.

  • Patent number: 5694694
Abstract: An improved scissors includes a pivot joint having a pivot axis, a first blade member having a first cutting edge and a longitudinal axis, and a second blade member having a second cutting edge. The second blade member is pivotally coupled by the pivot joint to the first blade member with the first cutting edge adjacent and in contact with the second cutting edge. Moreover, the pivot joint is coupled to the first blade member to incline the first blade member relative to the second blade member and the pivot joint, so that the inclination of the first blade member produces a load transverse to the pivot axis of the pivot joint, which corresponds to the direction along the longitudinal axis of the first blade member to produce and determine the tension and friction along the cutting edges. Further, the first blade member may also include a first ride area, and the second blade member may also include a second ride area, so that the first ride area is spaced from and free of contact with the second ride area.
