One nut comprises a locknut, which has a second end that comprises an exposed face. A perimeter of the exposed face is complementary to the opening, and a keyhole is positioned in the exposed face. The assembly includes an adapter that has a key end, which is complementary to the exposed face. The locknut is incompatible with the socket of the tire iron, and a wrench is not couplable to a locknut that is threaded to the stud bolt. The key end is positioned to couple to the exposed face such that torque from the tire iron is transferable to the locknut.

    Abstract: A wheel and axle assembly for a material handling cart has a wheel with a bearing and an axle that extends through the bearing. The axle has a bolt cavity with female cavity threads and an inside tapered portion. A bolt having male bolt threads and an outside tapered portion engages the female cavity threads. The head of the bolt has a head diameter that is greater than the inside diameter of the bearing and therefore locks the bolt in position. When the outside tapered portion of the bolt contacts the inside tapered portion of the bolt cavity, the head of the bolt locks the bearing against a shoulder of the axle. To prevent the bolt from loosening its engagement with the bolt cavity, a locking material is added to the male threads of the bolt.

A keyed lock (88) or flat headed screw (90) is imbedded into an enclosure (82) within the hub securing member and one or two balls (106) are forced into a groove (46) in the adapter by rotation of flats (84) when the lock or optional screw is rotated by a key or special tool. The hub securing member is screwed on or off by a separate tool mating with the polygon shaped raised outside portion or struck with a blunt instrument in the extending arm embodiment. The splined hub adapter remains attached to the vehicle after the wheel is removed. The wheel may be the spoked type or solid with the center hub integral with the outer rim (40).

    Abstract: This invention is a side wheel attachment for removably attaching an auxiliary side wheel to a bicycle. The side wheel attachment comprises a single structural rod which is folded in the desired shape, i.e. forms a helical torsion spring. In natural unbiased condition, the first and second ends of the spring rod extend generally perpendicularly to one another. The first end of the spring is inversely U-shaped and tangentially engages by its web the rear axle of the bicycle where it can be fixed after adjusting its vertical position relative to the bicycle. The second end of the spring rod is rotatably engaged by the auxiliary side wheel, therefore acting as its axle. Both ends can angularly move relative to one another due to the helical spring. Therefore, in use, both auxiliary side wheels (installed on one side and the other of the rear bicycle wheel) and the rear bicycle wheel loaded by a bicycle rider, always stay in contact with the ground so as to accomplish their respective tasks.

The normal embodiment of the invention contemplates the positioning of the wheel rim over the lug studs, in normal wheel-mounting fasion and subsequent actuation of the central drive-gear mechanism so as to rotate the locking arms into the hook-over-stud position.

The lug nut device includes two components, a lug nut composed of hardened metal and a tapered washer composed of aluminum. The lug nut is comprised of a plurality of arbitrarily arranged rounded and flat sides. The tapered washer has a large surface area, allowing for self-centering and weight distribution. The tapered washer and lug nut are connected by press-fitting the base of the lug nut to the flat end of the tapered washer. The two components then are fixedly engaged to a bolt, adjustably connecting the wheel to the axle. The lug nut device is more securely fastened by the means of a socket or key whose interior cavity circumference is complimentary to the sides of the lug nut.

The main wheels are cambered out from top to bottom to protect the hands and provide a wider wheel base. All of the frame members are hollow tubes to impart light weight to the chair along with great strength. The two elongated side frame members are joined by novel strong quick connecting and disconnecting parts at the front and back to permit rapid disassembly without sacrificing strength. The front connecting part also provides a foot rest.
