  • Patent number: 9582365
Abstract: Software for a distributed streaming platform launches an application that runs on a streaming platform, in real time or near real time rather than offline. The application is structured as a directed acyclic graph (DAG) with instances of operators as nodes and streams as edges between nodes. The software receives an indication that a first instance of an operator is I/O bound. A stream connects the first instance of an operator to a second instance of another operator in a single container provided by the streaming platform. The software then transmits the indication to the application and receives a request to combine the first instance with the second instance into a single third instance of an operator. The software creates the third instance and re-initiates the stream using a recovery policy.

  • Patent number: 8060619
Abstract: A system and method for efficiently accessing replicas of a storage object. A first node may perform a find operation to determine a plurality of nodes that each store a replica of a first storage object. For each node in the plurality of nodes, the first node may establish a direct connection to the node. The first node may then access the replicas of the first storage object using the respective direct connections to the plurality of nodes. In one embodiment, the nodes may be nodes in a peer-to-peer network. Establishing a direct connection to each storage object replica may enable the first node to communicate with each node in a single hop without having to pass messages via intermediate nodes in the peer-to-peer network.

  • Patent number: 7884518
Abstract: An electrical synchronous machine, in particular for use as a drive machine in motor vehicle applications. A stator has an electrical winding arrangement for generating a rotating field. A rotor has magnetic flux generating means for generating a rotor flux with which the rotating field interacts. The rotor has a first rotor section with first magnetic flux generating means and a second rotor section with magnetic flux influencing means. It is possible to move the two rotor sections relative to one another between at least a first and a second relative position in such a way that the rotor flux provided by the rotor has a different magnitude in the two relative positions.

  • Patent number: 7365463
Abstract: A motor that delivers high force linear motion or high torque rotary motion to a moving element. The motor may include a driving brake, a driver, a holding brake and a flexible moving element. Operation of the motor may involve activating the holding brake, activating the driver to flex the moving element, activating the holding brake to maintain the position of a portion of the moving element, releasing the driving brake, and restoring the moving element to an unflexed position. The elements are arranged to provide linear motion, belt-driven rotary motion, or directly-coupled rotary motion using brakes and drivers arranged in linear or circular fashion. Drivers may be linear or rotary actuators or motors based on electrostatic, piezoelectric, magnetic, or electrostrictive properties. The brakes may be applied through electrostatic forces, magnetic forces, or mechanical gears engaged with a linear or rotary driving mechanism.

  • Publication number: 20020047419
Abstract: The present invention provides an engine generator which is small in the size but high in the efficiency of power generation and a controller for the engine generator. The present invention is implemented by a power generator G driven by an engine E, a starter motor M for cranking the engine E, and a controller 4 for supplying various electric loads including the starter motor M with a driving voltage which depends on the power released from the generator G and a battery 5. The controller 4 includes an igniter 43 for feeding the ignition coil 5 in the engine with igniting energy. The controller 4 allows the source line of the igniter 43 to be supplied with a driving voltage received from a power supply line of the generator and a power supply line of the battery which are connected in parallel with each other so that the driving voltage for the igniter 43 stays not declined when the starter motor M is driven.

  • Patent number: 5225726
Abstract: A linear synchronous motor for a high speed, ground transportation vehicle includes a linear stator assembly that is divided into sections. The stator assembly has an air gap and generates a magnetic field traveling wave therein from a constant frequency alternating current. The traveling wave has variable speeds and accelerations along different sections of the stator. A rotor assembly has a plurality of magnets forming at least one pole-pitch of a variable length. The rotor assembly is coupled to the vehicle and disposed in the air gap of the stator and runs laterally therewith, producing an attractive force between a magnetic field of the rotor and the traveling wave of the stator. The rotor has at least one magnet that includes an upper portion, a lower portion spaced apart from the upper portion, and a nonmagnetic coupler rigidly coupling the upper portion of the magnet to the lower portion. The magnetic field of the rotor propels the vehicle.
