  • Patent number: 9685839
Abstract: In one embodiment, an electric motor includes at least three bearings. The ball bearing utilized in the three bearings may be sized based on benchmark surface areas associated with the ball bearing utilized in a conventional electric motor having two bearings. Moreover, a technique may be implemented to reduce the diameter at a point on the shaft where a backup or second bearing makes contact with the shaft. When the motor begins to operate, for example, at a first time, the at least three bearings together handle a the load coming through the motor. When the front-most bearing degrades to a predetermined point or fails, for example, at a second time, the load transitions from the front most bearing to the second or backup bearing in the front plate.

  • Patent number: 7423405
Abstract: In order to obtain an electromagnetic rotating machine of lightweight and high energy efficiency, which produces big torque for rotating a large-diameter fan, a coil A and coil B as excitation coils are disposed on an inner peripheral surface of a fan casing so as to face an outer circumference of the fan, and a coil M as an armature coil crosses at a central portion and is disposed on the outer circumference of the fan. The relationships |Iai|=|Iai+1| and Iai=?Iai+1, or |Ibi|=|Ibi+1| and Ibi=?Ibi+1 are obtained respectively for the coil A or coil B by a current control device (not shown). Moreover, the coil A and coil B are subjected to excitation control such that the direction of effective electromagnetic force, which is generated by an interaction between an effective magnetic field formed by the coil A and effective induced current applied to the coil M by the coil B, corresponds to the direction of rotation of the fan.

  • Patent number: 6836954
Abstract: Rotor for an electric motor that comprises a core (1), segments of a cylinder (5, 6, 7) made of magnetizable materials, a substantially cylindrical retaining wrapper (10) whose end portions are joined to at least a pair of plane elements (8, 9). The rotor also comprises first elastic means (11, 12, 13) having a length that is not smaller than the length of the core and being supported by means (2, 3, 4) that are integrally provided in the core parallelly to the axis of rotation (X) of the rotor, which interfere with contiguous longitudinal edges of the segments of a cylinder so as to keep said segments circumferentially spaced from each other. In a preferred manner, the rotor also comprises second elastic means (21-26) which are adapted to make up for the longitudinal and radial plays of the various parts of the rotor so as to ensure that the outer surface of the segments of a cylinder keeps in contact with the inner surface of the wrapper. The invention further relates to a method for producing the rotor.

Abstract: An outer yoke of a dynamo-electric machine is made from at least one piece of plate material that has at least one pair of tongue and groove. The tongue is formed at one end of the plate material, and the groove is formed at the other end of the plate material in opposing relationship to the tongue. The outer yoke is formed into a cylindrical shape by engaging the tongue with the groove while the plate material is rolled into the cylindrical shape. A rotor and the inner yoke constitute a dynamo-electric machine main body. The dynamo-electric machine main body is fitted within the outer yoke such that the outer yoke is expanded radially outwardly by the dynamo-electric machine main body to secure the outer yoke to the inner yoke in tightly contacting relationship therewith.
