It is easy to operate and does not require extensive training, requiring substantially less physical capabilities from the user and thereby increasing the pool of potential operators. An important safety benefit is that it does not fracture resilient or compliant materials such as cable channels and conduits, tubing, plumbing, cabling and other embedded fixtures that may be encountered along the impact path. While the ultrasonic/sonic jackhammer of the invention is able to cut concrete and asphalt, it generates little back-propagated shocks or vibrations onto the mounting fixture, and can be operated from an automatic platform or robotic system.

Abstract: An actuator for moving a tool is disclosed, comprising a housing in which a tappet carrying a tool holder is guided axially movable, wherein the tappet is movable by means of a fast drive, e.g. by a piezo drive or by a nanotube drive, which is biased against a restoring force and which is dampened by a dampening element. Herein the fast drive may at least partially be received within a recess of the tappet which leads to a very compact design, in particular in combination with a coaxial dampening element. For guiding the tappet in axial direction alternatively a roller guide may be used (FIG. 3).

Abstract: Disclosed are a bonding method for a semiconductor chip, which employs an ultrasonic bonding scheme that prevents wear-out of the top surface of a mount tool and ensures both high reliability and high productivity, and a bonding apparatus which is used to carry out the method. The bonding apparatus and method are provided with means for suppressing generation of a sliding friction. The apparatus and method execute a bonding process by controlling vibration-axial directional holding force and inertial force based on information given from control management means to thereby maintain a relationship of (vibration-axial directional holding force)>(die shear strength)+(inertial force) while applying an ultrasonic vibration to a region which is subjected to bonding.
