  • Patent number: 5602450
Abstract: An apparatus for remotely operating an ignition switch mounted on the steering column of an automobile includes a motor mounted on the floor or other surface of the automobile away from the steering column, such that the steering column does not bear the weight of the motor. A drive cable is connected to the motor, and the drive cable is also connected to a coupling which is mounted on the steering column and which is connected to the ignition switch. The coupling translates rotational motion of the drive cable 90.degree., so that the coupling and drive cable do not unduly project straight out from the steering column and hence do not interfere with other components, e.g., shift levers, that are mounted on the steering column. A position sensor generates a signal representative of the position of the ignition switch, and the signal is received by a controller. In turn, the controller activates the motor as necessary to establish and/or maintain a desired position of the ignition switch.

  • Patent number: 5585705
Abstract: A process for the monitoring of, in particular, the closing of a motor-operated aggregate, preferably for use in motor vehicles, for example a vehicle window or sliding roof. A motor which is connected to the vehicle electrical supply system is switched off by means of switching elements and/or a sensor which detects characteristic values of the aggregate and a data processing system including storage and comparing means. Switch off occurs during the closing process within a predetermined (central) portion of the closing travel, when a value dependent on the motor rpm or the speed of the aggregate exceeds a threshold value based on a stored reference value. A monitoring system is effective in the start-up phase of the motor. In the start-up phase of the motor, therefore, an initial threshold value based on a reference value detected towards the end of the previous adjustment process and then stored, is compared with the current motor period value.

  • Patent number: 5331260
Abstract: A system for controlling power windows of vehicles includes a module mounted on a console between the driver and passenger seats of a vehicle having front and rear sets of power windows with a separate switch module for operating each rear window proximate that window. The console includes a pair of operating switches for the front windows and a rotary selector switch movable between first and second positions. When the rotary selector switch is in the first position, the front operating switches raise and lower the front windows and the rear operating switches raise and lower the rear windows. When the selector switch is in the second position, the rear operating switches are disabled as are the motors for the front windows, while the front operating switches are connected through to the motors to operate the rear windows.

  • Patent number: 5319248
Abstract: An automotive vehicle seat adjusting system according to this invention is constructed to move a seat by a drive circuit. It is also constructed to allow a driver to change, during movement of the seat, the moving speed of the seat as he likes. In the system of this invention, when a signal indicative of the feeling of the driver to the moving speed of the seat is inputted, fuzzy inference is performed in accordance with a speed decision rule to decide an optimal moving speed. The optimal moving speed is decided by a fuzzy inference processor on the basis of the inputted feeling signal and an actual moving speed. The drive circuit is controlled in accordance with the decision at the fuzzy inference processor, whereby the seat is allowed to move at the optimal moving speed.

  • Patent number: 5289094
Abstract: An airflow register for an air conditioning system for an enclosure such as room within a house or an office within a building. The register includes a series of louvers which can be located in either an open position or a closed position. The open position permits air to flow through the register and the closed position prevents air from flowing through the register. Louvers are to be movable by a motor with this motor being operated by a light sensor mounted on the exterior surface of the register. Upon an observable lightened environment being detected by the light sensor, the motor is activated which will locate the louvers in the open position. Upon an observable darkened condition being sensed by the light sensor, the motor is activated which will locate the louvers in the closed position. A flow limiter may be used to keep the louvers slightly open when in the closed position to have some heated air enter the room when the ambient temperature is severely cold.

  • Patent number: 5280754
Abstract: A system for detecting objects in the path of a power operated, movable door operating in a mass transit vehicle, which would obstruct door closing. The system also includes an integral method for detection of a "free wheeling" door occasioned by failure of the door mechanical drive. Method and apparatus disclosed utilize door handle locating devices such as electrical switches located at predetermined points along the door closure track. A combination of door locations along the closure track centrally define positions signaling either door linkage failure with attendant "free wheeling" door, and/or door obstruction, in each case, the system disclosed prevents train motion until the improper door condition is remedied. The combination provides a reduction in passenger hazards occasioned by train movement with defective operator linkage and/or door obstruction due to trapped passengers or other impediments to door closure.

  • Patent number: 5230416
Abstract: The device comprises at least one lead screw (2) driving a sliding yoke (23) whose guide bar (22) is mounted on a rocker arm (19). The lead screw actuates a switch (27) by means of a cam (28) via the sliding yoke. A deliberate action on the rocker arm moves away the sliding yoke (23) which is brought instantaneously into initial position by a spring (25). The lead screw (2) is for preference disengageable by means of an arm (29) driven by the axle of the sliding yoke. This arm provides an angular positioning of the lead screw by acting on a heart-shaped cam (10).The device permits rapid, sure and precise setting of the stopping points of a motor.

Abstract: It is proposed that the utilization period of the awning be increased in connection with automatic or manual manual control means in that the awning is preferably incrementally retracted as a function of the magnitude of the wind velocity, as determined through measurement, with the wind velocity being determined in corresponding graduations, and, as a function thereof, in that the control unit for the awning drive motor moves the awning to intermediate awning positions which have priority over all other control influences. In addition to the limit switches, which are present anyway and which indicate the "fully retracted" or "fully extended" positions, a plurality of intermediate sensors, corresponding to the number of desired increments, are disposed to determine the intermediate positions, with the signals output by the intermediate sensors, which indicate the actual position of the awning being compared with wind-velocity-determined awning setpoint position signals.

  • Patent number: 5218282
Abstract: The present invention is an automatic door operator which includes an obstruction detector for at least stopping the motor when the detected motor speed indicates a motor torque greater than the selected closing torque limit while closing the door, and for at least stopping the motor when the detected motor speed indicates a motor torque greater than the selected opening torque limit while opening the door. The motor speed is detected based upon a predetermined count of electrical pulses corresponding to motor shaft rotation in order smooth noise. Selection of the number of pulses per rotation enables the same controller to control motors operating on either 60 Hz or 50 Hz power. A travel count of rotation pulses permits identification of a plurality of regions in the opening and closing travel of the door and corresponding adaptive torque limits. The travel counter may also be employed for detection of the fully opened and fully closed limits.
