  • Patent number: 7299554
Abstract: A jig for face frame hinges may include a base and gripping members, wherein the jig may be secured to a frame member or a wall adapted to receive a hinge base plate and the hinge base plate may be abutted with a first hinge abutting edge of the jig. The gripping members may hold the jig in a selected position so that the hinge base may be abutted with the jig while fasteners are engaged through the base and into the frame member, or while holes are pre-drilled and fasteners engaged to mount the hinge base. The proper position may typically be with a second frame member abutting edge of the jig abutted with an adjacent adjoining frame member. Thus, the jig edges form stops for consistently and positively locating hinge bases of a face frame hinge at a predetermined distance from adjacent frame members.

  • Patent number: 6513258
Abstract: A hand-held adjustable scribe block for aiding in the installation of trim around doors and windows includes a first body member and a second body member in a slidable relationship to each other. First body member has a generally planar engagement surface that is in a facing relationship with a generally planar engagement surface on the second body member. First body member includes a longitudinal slot disposed along its longitudinal axis for receiving a pin member to prevent rotation of the first body member relative to the second body member. A locking mechanism, comprising a screw member having an arm member attached thereto, locks the first body member to the second body member to set the longitudinal offset of the two body members. Once set, the user can utilize the scribe block to set the amount of distance the trim is set back from the door jamb or window opening. The first ends of both body members is shaped at a 90 degree angle to facilitate locating the inside corner of the door or window trim.

Abstract: An apparatus used to align door jambs and like structures. A base member comprises a substantially longitudinal section through which a channel is formed in the top surface thereof, one end extending into a first jamb spreader. A first extension member is slidably coupled within the channel of the base member, the extended end of the extension member depending into a second jamb spreader. A second extension member is slidably coupled within the channel of the base member opposite the first extension member, the end opposing the second jamb spreader depending into a third jamb spreader. The jamb spreader of the first and second extension members include horizontal and vertical leveling members. By positioning the opposed jamb spreaders against the opposed door jambs or surfaces, the alignment of the door jambs and door frame may be determined to be in square and plumb alignment.

  • Patent number: 6430834
Abstract: An installation template for installing a door closer. The installation consists of an under sheet coated with a release agent and two installation templates, a pull side template and a push side template, both coated with a self-stick adhesive, attached to the under sheet. The pull side template and the push side template include two sets of written instructions, each set being upside down to the other set, which permits each template to be used for both right hand and left hand installations. The use of both pull side and push side templates on the single under sheet along with the two sets of written instructions, allows a single template to be used for both push side installation and pull side installation of both right hand and left hand doors.
