  • Patent number: 7346997
Abstract: This invention provides a validating device for validating at least one dimension of a part as being at least a minimum magnitude. It may also validate a dimension of a part as being no greater than a maximum magnitude or between a minimum magnitude and maximum magnitude. The validating device includes a frame having a cavity and employs a plunger and a sensor. One portion of the plunger engages the part and another portion activates the sensor. When the sensor activates, it indicates that the dimension of the part is at least the minimum magnitude. The cavity for receiving the part may be sized to correspond with maximum magnitudes for the same dimension and/or other dimensions for the part such that the part cannot fit in the cavity if a dimension exceeds its maximum magnitude and therefore the sensor cannot be activated and the part cannot be validated.

  • Patent number: 6532677
Abstract: A molded limit gauge for measuring workpiece thicknesses. The limit gauge includes a body having one or more elongate ridges extending longitudinally therealong. Each ridge has a plurality of notches extending laterally through its upper portion. Each notch has a unique longitudinal dimension that is uniform. In a first preferred embodiment of the invention, the bottom surface of each notch and the land between each notch is horizontally flat. In a second preferred embodiment, each of these surfaces has a configuration of a laterally convex curve. The limit gauge body is configured such that it can be mounted atop a planing machine. So mounted, it can function as a structural top of the planing machine. Measurement of a board thickness is accomplished by attempting to slide the board through notches that appear to match its thickness. A range of board thickness is defined between the indicated sizes of two adjacent notches that respectively allow and do not allow passage of the board through.

  • Patent number: 6389704
Abstract: A thread ring gauge holder that is used with a thread ring gauge to eliminate the variance in applied torque from different people using the thread ring gauge. This device allows the thread ring gauge to be protected from an excessive amount of torque and from a premature false reading from applying too little torque from a wide variety of users. The device can be used together with a variety of thread ring gauges and is made up of a ring gauge adapter, a ratchet drive, a ratchet gear, a protective housing that accommodates a ball plunger and a pawl device and a snap ring to hold the thread ring gauge holder together in place with the thread ring gauge. The ball plunger and pawl act as a torque setting device to control the amount of torque that is applied to the thread ring gauge, thereby insuring repeatability and consistency.

  • Patent number: 6360447
Abstract: An empty envelope assurance system is provided. The system includes a conveyor for conveying an opened envelope having a front face and a rear face along a path of movement. The conveyor is arranged such that any contents of the envelope rests against one of the front face or the rear face. A first sensor measures a thickness of the front face and any contents resting thereagainst, and generates a signal having a value indicative of the thickness. A second sensor measures a thickness of the rear face and any contents resting thereagainst, and generates a signal having a value indicative of the thickness. A signal processor receives the signals generated by the first sensor and the second sensor, and compares the values of the signals generated by the first sensor with the values of the signals generated by the second sensor to determine whether they correspond within a predetermined limit to determine whether the envelope contains any contents.
