  • Patent number: 7596875
Abstract: A template and method for sizing horseshoes. The template includes a plate against which ground-contacting portion of a horse's hoof is placed. The plate has a plurality of adjustment members thereon. Each adjustment member is individually movable from a first position remote from a perimeter of said hoof, to a second position adjacent the perimeter. When the adjustment members are all in the second position, they are locked into position. The adjustment members define a region that is generally shaped to conform to the perimeter of the horse's hoof. The farrier works a horseshoe until the shoe is able to be received within the region defined by the adjustment members. The worked horseshoe may then be nailed to the horse's hoof.

  • Patent number: 7552538
Abstract: The present invention is a visual aid for balancing and aligning the equine hoof. Unlike previous devices that consider only the ground surface when balancing the hoof capsule, this invention utilizes coronet band and hoof capsule deformation as the start point for rebalancing giving it a top down approach. This wrap-around device is superimposed upon a live hoof capsule for measurement and visualization. The invention is flexible, resilient, and adjustable allowing for proper placement and utilization on all equine hooves. A posterior attaching mechanism may be incorporated into the device for added stability. On the surface of the device are various markings with which measurements are made.

  • Publication number: 20080289199
Abstract: A farrier's tool and a method of using the tool for preparing the hoof of a horse to receive a shoe. The tool is, in one aspect, a goniometer used for determining the angle of heel-toe taper when preparing a horse's hoof to receive a shoe. After the angle between the anterior surface of the first phalanx of the foot and the anterior surface of the hoof is determined, the ground-facing surface of the hoof is beveled by means of a trimming tool at an angle determined by the goniometer to reduce uneven pressure on the underlying coffin bone and to balance the tension on the tendons and ligaments in the horse's foot, particularly during locomotion. The method provides, inter alia, means for accurately aligning the hoof capsule with the coffin bone in the hoof.

  • Patent number: 7421794
Abstract: A device and method for measuring the mouth of an animal are provided. The device includes a gripping handle and rod coupled to a first endpiece. The rod is threaded along at least part of its length. The device includes a second endpiece that includes a threaded hole. The second endpiece is rotatably threaded onto a threaded portion of the rod. The threads of the rod and threaded hole cause the second endpiece to move laterally along the threaded length of the rod when the second endpiece is rotated about the rod. By placing the rod adjacent to the mouth of an animal and rotating the second endpiece until the first and second endpieces are located adjacent to boundaries of dimension of the animal's mouth that is to be measured, the desired dimension of the animal's mouth can be determined from the distance between the first and second endpieces.

  • Patent number: 6765155
Abstract: The present invention 10 discloses a device that allows a fisherman 12 to measure and weight their catch 14 to determine if they are of legal size or a throw back. The device of the present invention consists of a plastic housing 16, including a carrying handle 18. A measuring ruler 20 is stenciled upon the horizontal face of the device and is used to measure the user's catch. On the opposing rear wall is a pictorial display of game fish 22 with information on size, and weight restrictions of different species as dictated by local authority. A weight scale 42 is provided and housed within an end wall 24 having an access panel 40. A hook chain device 36 is also provided and consists of a hook 44 attached to one distal end of the chain 46 and another hook 44 attached to the other distal end of the chain 46 stored within the weight scale compartment 26. One end hook 44 of the chain device 46 is attached to a loop 38 on the weight scale plate 52.

  • Publication number: 20040097835
Abstract: A single measurement tool is configured to measure at least one characteristic of a tubular tissue structure during a surgical procedure. The measurement tool may include an indentation defined therein that is placed against a tubular structure such as the aorta to determine whether that tubular structure has a radius larger than or smaller than the radius of curvature of the indentation. The measurement tool may include a number of first recesses for measuring the diameter of a tubular structure. The measurement tool may include at least one second recess for measuring the wall thickness of a tubular structure.

  • Patent number: 6719785
Abstract: Improved tools for visualizing, sizing and/or marking include a prosthesis template with a diameter approximately equal to the diameter of an aortic heart valve prosthesis. In preferred embodiments, the prosthesis template has an annulus end and a sinotubular junction end wherein the diameter at the annulus end is less than the diameter at the sinotubular junction end. The prosthesis template can include a marking element configured to mark tissue at particular positions relative to the prosthesis template. Marking can be performed with a variety of techniques.

  • Publication number: 20040020069
Abstract: An electronic caliper includes fixed and movable caliper arms mounted on a common housing and having jaws at their free ends. One of the caliper arms is attached to the housing through a pivot pin for pivoting motion between a contact position and a disengaged position. A spring engages the movable arm at a point on a side of the pivot pin opposite the jaws. The spring is under tension so as to bias the contact pad carried by the distal end of the movable caliper arm toward contact with the pad mounted on the distal end of the fixed caliper arm. A non-contact electronic sensor is positioned facing a target disk carried by movable caliper arm at its innermost end within the housing. A plunger, located on the same side of the pivot pin as is the target disk, allows the movable caliper arm to be pivoted to its open position to allow for insertion and removal of the soft tissue to be measured.

  • Patent number: 6647635
Abstract: A device for measuring the length of a spur on the leg of a turkey. A pair of leg cradles are placed on the back side of a turkey leg with the spur being located between two slide rails. A slide indicator is moved towards the spur until a spur bar comes in contact with the spur. The length of the spur is then determined by reading the measurement on the scale where the slide indicator is aligned.
