Abstract: A universal anchor bolt template including a plate member having a square configuration. The plate member has planar upper and lower surfaces. The plate member has a plurality of apertures therethrough arranged in at least one group of four radial aperture lines. The apertures are spaced along each of the aperture lines in the group at corresponding distances, such that the use of corresponding apertures allows the anchoring bolts to be positioned in a square configuration with a selected center-to-center distance. Each of the apertures is surrounded by at least one concentric knock-out for allowing the apertures to be enlarged for the use of larger anchoring bolts than could be accommodated by the apertures.

  • Patent number: 6635003
Abstract: A method for laying out an envelope blank on a sheet of material using a template having a straightedge portion with layout edge and an alignment portion with alignment field. The user places an item to be enclosed in an envelope onto the sheet, places marks thereon to locate approximately the corners of the item and removes the item. The user places the template thereon, adjustably aligns the edge of the straightedge portion on the sheet until the alignment element is lined up as parallel as possible with two diagonally opposed marks. The layout edge being thus aligned, the user draws a line representing a layout line substantially along the edge. In repeating this process for each mark, the user draws remaining layout lines. After drawing all layout lines, the user removes the template from the sheet; the envelope blank is formed from the layout lines.

  • Publication number: 20030093910
Abstract: A straight line template has a piece of plate with an array of bulged members arranged equal-spaced in both rows and columns on a front side thereof. The space between the adjacent rows or columns of the bulged members is formed as a layout area for drawing horizontal or vertical straight lines therealong. When a user utilizes a writing implement to draw on a sheet of paper covered on the front side of the straight line template, a pen point of the writing implement is pressed on the paper and forced towards the layout area to stroke a straight line on the paper along the layout area in a horizontal or a vertical coordinate of the plane plate. Therefore horizontal and vertical straight lines are easily drawn on the paper by utilizing the straight line template without any additional tools.

  • Patent number: 5943974
Abstract: A gathering gauge for assisting in the fabrication of a gather in a sewn article of manufacture. The gathering gauge is used to evenly distribute a given length of a fabric over a selected gather length, thereby eliminating guess work normally associated with such task. The gathering gauge is an elongated member defining a first slit for receiving and holding one end of a thread used to gather the fabric. A plurality of second slits is provided for receiving and holding a further portion of the thread. The second slits are disposed along the length of the gathering gauge at pre-selected distances from the first slit. A measuring guide is provided for determining the distance between the first slit and each individual second slit. Thus, depending upon the length of the fabric to be gathered, and either the length of the gather or the amount of gather desired, a particular second slit is selected.

  • Patent number: 5842280
Abstract: A means of gridded measurement for the cutting of construction materials which comprises the imprinting of visually precise commonly used measurement markings upon the surfaces of construction materials during the manufacturing process to save time and improve the accuracy of cutting the construction materials on a job site. Unit markings may be numbered for quick dimensional reference and fractional markings may also be used. The lines for commonly used markings may also be highlighted, darkened, doubled, tripled, dashed or dotted, and color enhanced for easy recognition. Applications may include, but are not limited to, use on wallboard, shower board, insulation, gypsum board, plywood, and any other material which must be cut to exact measurements on a construction job site. Angled cuts may be easily made by cutting along the opposite corners of a predetermined number of grids counted in both horizontal and vertical directions.

Abstract: A guiding disk for accurately and quickly finding drill holes on a bowling ball, for finding hole positions for certain characteristics of pushaway on different bowling balls, and for avoiding positioning any hole above that of a weight in the bowling ball. The body of the guiding disk is a transparent domed plastic plate, having a reference hole and a plurality of radiant angular lines extending from the center of the reference hole. Among the radiant lines is a reference line provided at a location of zero degrees of radiant angle. Secondary spaced apart reference lines are also provided on the disk. With such a construction, positions of the holes to be drilled can be found very quickly.

  • Patent number: 5749149
Abstract: This invention relates to a quilt graphing system that enables a quilter to custom design quilts and appliques. The quilt designing system includes at least one transparent quilt graphing grid and a template. The grid has a plurality of uniform squares with dimensional markings (dots and dashes) on all four sides of each square in the grid. The dimensional markings divide each side of the square into thirds and quarters. So marked, the quilt graphing grid enables the quilt maker to graph in straight lines, extending between the dimensional markings, artwork beneath the transparent grit or artwork graphed directly on the grid. The template is specially designed for use by the quilt maker in marking each square of fabric to correspond with the shape of a specific portion of the selected design, and for cutting the squares of fabric with seams for piecing together the fabric squares to form the selected design.

  • Patent number: 5673490
Abstract: An alignment mechanism and method for using the same are disclosed in which the alignment mechanism includes a sheet of translucent (including transparent) material with a plurality of horizontal and vertical intersecting traces positioned to form a grid. In a preferred embodiment, the sheet of translucent material is made of static cling vinyl to allow the sheet to hold itself to glass and other smooth surfaces. The sheet of material can also include centered X and Y axes to enable the user to determine the center of the sheet--thereby allowing the user to appropriately position art works relative to one another without relying on unaided perception.

  • Patent number: 5337484
Abstract: A scriptwriting guidance device for use by individuals who are visually or otherwise impaired, the device acting to guide the writer's pen or other writing implement along a straight, horizontal path across a writing surface to form complete letters and other characters without interference from the device. The device includes a backboard having a shaft mounted for rotation adjacent one side edge thereof. Slidable along the shaft in incremental steps is a slide from whereby is cantilevered a guide element formed by a rectangular frame that overlies a paper sheet lying on the backboard. Disposed within the window of the frame is a rectangular template of smaller dimensions, the template having a narrow slot that defines a straight, horizontal path. The opposite ends of the template are coupled by springs to the corresponding ends of the frame whereby the template effectively floats within the window and is free to shift laterally.

  • Patent number: RE34374
Abstract: An adjustable template device for positioning over a sheet material for use in framing and cutting the sheet material to a selected shape comprising a plurality of slidably interconnected frame members forming a closed polygon. Each frame member comprises a guide edge for guiding a cutting blade and a socket adjacent one end of the guide edge for slidably receiving a portion of an adjacent frame member so that the guide edges of adjacent frame members form the sides and one corner of the polygon formed by the device. Each of the guide means has a plurality of detents which are engageable by a pin associated with each socket to retard relative sliding of adjacent frame members. The guide edges are preferably provided with a plurality of slots for receiving a cutting blade so that a cutting blade can extend in the slots to fully cut the corners formed by the frame members. At least some of these slots are positioned relative to the detents to ensure alignment with the adjacent cutting edge.
