  • Patent number: 6935043
Abstract: In a scale device including a case member (8) having a guide opening (9) formed therein, seal lip members (12A, 12B), a carrier unit (13) having seal lip pressing means (22, 23) formed thereon, and a coupling member (16) which slides inside and relative to the guide opening (9), the seal lip members (12A, 12B) are pressed at end portions (12e, 12f) thereof by the seal lip pressing means (22, 23) in the vicinity of opposite end portions (16b, 16c) of the coupling member (16) to prevent the seal lip members (12A, 12B) from being spread. Thus, any gaps can be prevented from taking place between the seal lip members (12A, 12B) and coupling member (16) in the vicinity of the opposite end portions (12e, 12f) of the latter. Therefore, dust or the like can be prevented from entering the case member (8).

  • Patent number: 6243965
Abstract: The electronic micrometer includes a casing defining at least an internal volume, in which are disposed a sleeve having an at least partially threaded inner surface. A screw is engaged in this sleeve and is able to be put in rotation with respect to the sleeve in such a way as to displace itself along the longitudinal measuring axis (x) of the device. There is a capacitive system of measurement for measuring the relative rotation of the screw with respect to the sleeve and for determining, starting with that measurement, the longitudinal position of the screw. The casing comprises two half-shells. At least one filiform joint allows the internal volume inside the casing to be sealed. Other sealing means are provided to prevent any infiltration of water or of dust into this internal volume. Accordingly, micrometer are protected.

  • Patent number: 5574381
Abstract: An electronic caliper configuration making such calipers more reliable in the presence of liquid and particulate contaminants. Included in the caliper configuration is an elongated cavity added to the main beam of the caliper. The cavity is sealed with a cover. The measuring scale element of the measuring transducer, and the associated shorter pickoff element are mounted in this cavity. The depth bar, ordinarily attached to the sliding jaw in conventional calipers, is inserted into the cavity through a hole or holes aligned parallel to the longitudinal axis of the caliper and internally joined to the moving transducer element. A conventional lip seal provides an effective seal around the diameter of the depth bar. An external portion of the depth bar is coupled to the sliding jaw of the caliper via axially rigid linkage or alternately an axially rigid flexure. In this way, the internally isolated transducer elements can be actuated by the external sliding caliper jaw.

  • Patent number: 5182867
Abstract: A position measuring apparatus is described wherein a probing unit is connected with a first object and probes the graduation of a measuring scale which is arranged upon a support member. The support member is fastened to a second object. The support member and the second object have different coefficients of thermal expansion. The support member is rigidly connected with an auxiliary support member. The coefficient of thermal expansion of the auxiliary support member differs from the thermal expansion coefficient of the support member. The cross-sections of the support member and the auxiliary support member are chosen so that the resulting coefficient of thermal expansion of the structural combination of the support member and the auxiliary support member is substantially equal to the coefficient of thermal expansion of the second object.
