Abstract: A measuring apparatus for automatically measuring the height, the dimensions of the inner and outer surfaces, and the shape of a cylindrically-shaped object. The measuring apparatus includes a measuring head vertically moving along a positioning guide supported by a support post integral with a measuring table, a height displacement measuring device, which comprises a laser distance meter provided on the measuring table, and an arithmetic processing unit. The measurement starts as the measuring head is raised by a weight from a measuring start position of the measuring table. The inner and outer surfaces of a tire are measured based on the measurements by an inner surface measuring device provided with three laser distance meters mounted to the measuring head and an outer surface measuring device having a laser distance meter and the displacement change measurement of the measuring head by the height displacement measuring device.

Abstract: There is a hot stick with measuring calipers. The hot stick has a hot stick stock and a hot stick driving bar. Movement of the hot stick driving bar controls the movement of fixed and movable jaw portions of internal and external caliper measurement jaws. In operation a dimension measuring element displays a distance between the fixed and movable jaw portions of the internal and external caliper measuring jaws. A hand grip allows an operator to move the hot stick driving bar relative to the hot stick driving bar. The hot stick stock and the hot stick driving bar both at least partially made of a dielectric material to allow measurements of at least one component of electrical power transmission equipment. The measurements may then be used to modify the electrical power transmission equipment.

  • Patent number: 7707738
Abstract: A low cost digital ruler with desirable ergonomic characteristics and accuracy. A low friction sliding position indicator includes a compliant element that forces its connection pads against the ruler's electronic scale contacts, to determining measurement positions. The position indicator includes an instrument receiving feature that engages a writing instrument and moves in conjunction with it, thereby measuring a line as it is drawn. A position indicator preload arrangement includes the compliant element, which is deflected to exert a preload that forces the sliding position indicator against a housing of the digital ruler. Alignment features of the position indicator and housing have cross sections that provide a self-aligning angled interference fit, which accurately aligns the sliding position indicator, under the action of the preload force. Misalignment constraint surfaces constrain the sliding position indicator in approximate alignment by, even if an external force overcomes the preload force.
