Digital Indicator Patents (Class 33/784)
  • Patent number: 5492003
Abstract: An electronic gap measuring tool which is inserted into a gap, and then gives an instantaneous digital readout on a depth gage. The digital data on the reading can be entered into an electronic data collector, resulting in a paperless data collection system. The electronic gap measuring tool includes a tool housing and a longitudinally displaceable shaft supported within the tool housing. A roller is mounted to the lower end of the longitudinally displaceable shaft, and a lateral extension is secured to the longitudinally displaceable shaft, such that the roller and lateral extension are longitudinally displaceable therewith. A measuring tab is defined at a lower end of the tool housing, such that a gap to be measured is defined between the measuring tab and the longitudinally displaceable roller.

  • Patent number: 5469629
Abstract: A gage includes an elongate support arm at the end of a bar on which there is mounted a measurement and display module. A sliding anvil arm is spaced from the bar in parallel relationship and mounted on the module for sliding movements therewith on the bar. A right angle support arm extends from the free end of the elongate support arm, anvils being mounted on the free end support portion of the right angle support arm and at the end of the sliding anvil arm, both the anvils being arranged along a measurement axis. The support portion of the right angle support arm and the anvil mounted thereon together have a dimension along the measurement axis no greater than the smallest anticipated space between a wheel and a rotor to be measured so that the anvil may be positioned on one side of the rotor while the sliding anvil arm together with the module can be brought into abutment against the other side of the rotor to provide a reading of the thickness of the rotor without removal of the wheel from the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5430954
Abstract: There is disclosed a calliper, useful for measuring how much fat can be pinched beneath the skin, having jaws (4,6) pivotally mounted for relative pivotal movement. The movement is amplified by a gear train (24, 26, 28, and 30). The final gear wheel (30) drives a toothed wheel the movement of which is sensed by an opto sensor (34). A digital readout indicates the spacing between the jaws for indicating the spacing between measuring surfaces of the jaws. In contrast to conventional callipers, which are used only to transfer a dimension from an object to be measured to a measuring device, the callipers disclosed give a direct reading of the spacing between the measuring surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5363562
Abstract: An opening clearance measuring tool that functions as a combination taper gauge and parallel gauge includes a wedge-shaped "taper block", a sliding linear scale predisposed to parallel movement along an upper edge of the taper block, and a digital read-out linear scale measuring and display unit that accurately measures a translational displacement of the sliding scale with respect to the taper block and displays the displacement in millimeters. The angle between the upper and lower edge surfaces of the taper block forms the wedge of the tool and defines the particular slope or "taper" for the gauge. The slope is predetermined to incorporate a linear conversion factor between metric and English units so that the display may be used to indicate clearance measurements expressed in mils. The scale measuring and display unit is fixedly secured to the taper block and, as the linear scale slider is moved past (through) the scale display unit, the translational displacement of the slider is measured and displayed.

  • Patent number: 5337488
Abstract: A measuring device, such as a micrometer or other form of dimensional measuring instrument, is provided which is operable to indicate dimensional measurements made thereby in numerical form on a display, such as an electronic digital display. The measuring device or micrometer is controlled to generate digital electrical signals which are indicative of a measurement, which signals of each measurement are recorded in an electronic memory which may be supported by the device or connected thereto. The memory is employed to both indicate each measurement as it is made and to record all or selected measurements made for future reference. Other information generated, for example, by a suitable input means such as a keyboard, and defining such variables as part number, part lot, time and date of measurement, etc. may be recorded in such memory along with the recording or recordings of data defining the measurements made.

  • Patent number: 5174041
Abstract: A method and an electronic slide caliper serve for measuring a length. The slide caliper comprises a rule and a slide which is arranged on the rule for longitudinal displacement and which is provided with two sensors which are offset relative to each other in the longitudinal direction in such a way that the zero passages of the signals generated by the sensors will not coincide. In order to be able to measure the lengths even in the presence of considerable drifts, the zero passages (ND) of the signals are determined by determining first maximum values (MX) and minimum values (MN) of the signal values (U) and deriving thereafter the zero passages (ND) as arithmetic mean value. By taking the average of a larger number of zero passages one then determines the respective zero level (U.sub.N).
