  • Patent number: 5517167
Abstract: A magnetic coil, a magnetic contactor using the magnetic coil and a method for manufacturing the magnetic coil are disclosed wherein the magnetic coil does not need increased winding space and can be configured as having two coil terminals protruding in only one direction or as having three coil terminals. A three terminal-type magnetic contactor which uses the magnetic coil does not require an increased amount of space for the winding process, and the size of the three terminal version is reduced while still meeting insulation requirements. The magnetic coil maintains reliable electrical connection even when subjected to mechanical vibration.

  • Patent number: 5510761
Abstract: A contact system for current limiting units which are combined with power circuit breakers or motor circuit breakers. The object of the invention is to improve the reliability of the current limiting unit equipped with such a contact system, while reducing the time and effort required to assemble and install such a contact system. The invention teaches that the contact systems can be assembled from a contact carrier with a stationary contact tip and a subsystem preassembled with little force, which can be installed in the arcing chambers in a stable condition and under the force of contact compression springs. The subsystem contains the wiper provided with the moving contact tip, which wiper is mounted with a direct electrical connection to a supply lead. Supports in the subsystem limit the movement of the wiper in both directions.

  • Patent number: 5500630
Abstract: A solid state overload relay mechanism designed for minimizing the forces required to open an electrical contact associated therewith in the event of a current overload in a protected circuit, and further designed for overcoming residual magnetism in a solenoid initiating the opening of the contact. The contact includes a pair of stationary contacts supported by a base and a pair of movable contact supported by a contact carrier. A latch defines a notch which is normally engaged with a lever. When so engaged, the contact carrier is positioned such that the movable contacts are in contact with the stationary contacts. When the lever becomes disengaged from the latch, the contact carrier is moved and contact between the movable contacts and stationary contacts is broken. The latch is provided with a counterbalance weight to aid in minimizing the force required to return the latch to its original position after the mechanism is tripped.

The trip unit interlock provides a trip unit having a plug connectable with a mating plug which is slidable with respect to the circuit breaker. Abstract: A floating magnet mounted in an electromagnetic switch assembly. The magnet has confronting faces contacted by confronting faces of a movable armature. The movable armature is caused to contact the floating magnet by a magnetic field created when electrical current is applied to a current carrying coil. The magnet has a mounting face opposite its confronting faces. A mounting stem is anchored in the mounting face and extends through an aperture in a mounting base. The stem laterally protrudes to prevent it from pulling through the aperture in the mounting base. The magnet rests on an energy absorbing medium, such as a spring or rubber. The energy absorbing medium is disposed between the mounting face of the magnet and the mounting base. The energy absorbing medium is resilient to provide magnet flotation. Magnet flotation allows the magnet to float to align its confronting faces with those of the armature when the armature is caused to contact the magnet.

This moving contact selectively assumes one of two bistable states, a contiguous closed state or a noncontiguous open state. A rotary operator including rotary members and a contact lever train selectively causes the stationary contact and the moveable contact to assume either a closed or an open state. A single solenoid for sensing breaker current in each phase causes the rotary operator to move the contacts from a closed state to an open state. Additionally, the solenoid for a faulted phase directly acts on a solenoid bell crank to cause the contact to begin to assume an open state in a trip operation, if breaker current reaches a preselected trip value in the faulted phase.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a kind of electromagnet for applications requiring traction, braking, vibration, electromagnetic valve and contactor operations. The electromagnet according to the present invention has new characteristics of temperature rise. A T-shaped solenoidal structure without a heat dissipating window is provided for the body of the electromagnet. Only under high magnetic flux-density close to saturation can the electromagnet sustain holding. Current limiting switching circuits are also provided. The starting current-density of the coil is very high. The starting ampere-turns is higher than the value adopted in conventional designs, and the holding ampere-turns are very low. A normal fuse tube can be reliably adopted for overheat protection.

Abstract: A dust preventing device for an electromagnetic contactor prevents foreign matters accumulated on a foreign matter preventing wall from slipping off the wall due to vibrations of electromagnetic contactor. In a case where an arc extinguishing chamber cover is disposed to cover a fixed contact and a movable contact, and includes a foreign matter preventing wall provided under a gas discharging opening formed on the cover, the foreign matter preventing wall is formed with ribs provided therearound in a shape of an embankment. Therefore, foreign matters having entered through the gas discharging opening can be positively trapped in a hollow portion surrounded by ribs, so that the foreign matters do not fall into the electromagnetic contactor from the foreign matter preventing wall due to vibrations of the contactor.

  • Patent number: 5197594
Abstract: The invention concerns an arrangement to couple an auxiliary switch mechanism to an electrical switchgear unit, preferrably a contactor, with a contact slide piece onto which the moving contact pieces are mounted, and a switchgear housing onto which the switchgear fixed-mounted contact pieces are mounted. The contact slide pieces of the switchgear unit and the auxiliary switch mechanism are mounted so that they can slide transversely to the direction of connection. A projection of the auxiliary switch mechanism is positioned in a cutout of the contactor in an interlocking fashion. The connection of contact slide pieces similarly takes place in a positive, interlocking fashion. A lock makes an effective connection with the position of the contact slide piece in the auxiliary switch mechanism, thereby preventing the removal of the auxiliary switch mechanism when the unit is switched on.

  • Patent number: 5189385
Abstract: An interlock mechanically locks out of one of two electromagnetic switching devices which are located side by side while the other switching device is in its closed position. The interlock achieves this lockout by adapting the moving parts of the switching devices, which are to be coupled, to locking elements. The locking elements are preferably slide bars which extend from the interlock. The moving parts of the switching devices form coupling members for auxiliary switches. These auxiliary switches can be set onto the switching device. The slide bars conform to the coupling members. This makes it possible to mount an interlock, for two electromagnetic switching devices located side by side, in place of or in addition to auxiliary switch units.
