Patent number: 4979315Abstract: Subsequent to formation of a filter cake upon the surface of belt and further vacuum filtration (via vacuum trays), the cake passed below and is covered by an impervious sheet, and is dried by application of radiation, e.g. microwaves, radio waves, through the sheet, along with further evacuation (via vacuum trays) below the sheet. Because the cake is under suction pressure, the evaporation temperature of the filtrate is lowered to a level which will not adversely affect the cake, and which can be reached very rapidly by application of this form of radiation.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1989Date of Patent: December 25, 1990Assignee: D & C LimitedInventor: Henri G. Patent number: 4932139Abstract: A method of and an apparatus for a drying fibre web (8) between two metal band (1, 4) moving in the same direction substantially in parallel with each other, whereby the fibre web (8) is led together with a felt (7) between the bands (1, 4), and the band (1) on the side of the web (8) is heated and the band (4) on the side of the felt (7) is cooled. In order to achieve a sufficient drying rate particularly when drying thick web grades while keeping the pressure exerted on the web at a low level, condensing pipes (13a to 13b) for back-pressure steam are mounted on the surface of the band (1) to be heated on the side facing away from the web (8), and a heat transfer medium, such as heat transfer oil (11) or the like, is provided between the pipes (13a to 13b) and the band (1).Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1989Date of Patent: June 12, 1990Assignee: Oy Tampella OyInventor: Jukka Lehtinen

Patent number: 4872998Abstract: An automated, non-polluting process and apparatus for mechanically dewatering and heat drying liquid sewage sludge of widely varying solids content to form a pelletizable, dried sludge of predetermined uniform solids content without requiring recycling of previously heat processed sludge. Prior to being dried, the sludge is mixed with flocculation and coagulation promoting chemicals and is dewatered in a belt-type press. Drying takes place within an indirect heat dryer including an enclosed housing for capturing all gases and particles entrained in the gas driven off during the drying process. The gases and particles are advanced by means of a fan first through a cyclone separator for removing dust particles and next through a water jet scrubber prior to being exhausted or burned in order to control odor. The dust removed by the cyclone separator is recombined with the output from the indirect dryer prior to being pelletized.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1988Date of Patent: October 10, 1989Assignee: Bio Gro Systems, Inc.Inventors: Jerome Dausman, Raymond J. Patent number: 4525938Abstract: A spin drier including a casing and a rotor equipped with at least one holder for a carrier, which is adapted to enclose a semiconductor material such as a silicon wafer therein, and embraced in the casing so that the semiconductor material placed on the rotor is dried by a gas stream which has been introduced through an intake port provided above the rotor, passes through the rotor and is to be exhausted through an exhaust port formed through a circumferential wall of the casing. The rotor is provided with at least three guide members on the outer section thereof, and each guide member includes a substantially vertically disposed curved surface with its convex side faced inwardly. The described holder is positioned between two guide members, to thereby guide the above described gas flow and thus prevent water, dusts and/or stains located on the bottom wall and circumferential wall of the casing from flowing back onto the semiconductor materials.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 1984Date of Patent: July 2, 1985Inventor: Seiichiro Aigo

Patent number: 4489501Abstract: Disclosed herein is a spin drier for silicon wafers and the like including a rotor equipped with at least one holder for a carrier, which is adapted to enclose a silicon wafer or the like therein, and a casing embracing the rotor. The radial distance between the circumferential wall of the casing and the central axis of the rotor gradually increases as the circumferential wall extends all around the rotor in its circumferential direction from a position adjacent to an air exhaust port to the air exhaust port, thereby making an air conduit formed around the rotor gradually wider. The bottom wall of the casing gradually slopes down towards the air exhaust port. Owing to the above construction, the resistance to an air stream through the casing has been reduced, thereby preventing air from flowing back into the rotor after striking the circumferential wall of the casing and thus preventing stains and water on the circumferential wall of the casing from flowing back and sticking on wafers or the like.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1982Date of Patent: December 25, 1984Inventor: Seiichiro Aigo

Patent number: 4489502Abstract: Disclosed herein is a spin drier for silicon wafers and the like including a rotor equipped with at least one holder for a carrier, which is adapted to enclose a silicon wafer or the like therein, and a casing embracing the rotor. The spin drier is further provided with a guide member, which is disposed between the lower face of the rotor and the bottom wall of the casing and formed of a plurality of guide blades extending downwardly aslant in the rotating direction of the rotor. Owing to the provision of the guide member, water and dusts are prevented from splashing back onto the wafers or the like from the bottom wall of the casing. Thus, the wafers or the like can be dried faster without deleteriously affecting the washing effect.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 1982Date of Patent: December 25, 1984Inventor: Seiichiro Aigo

Patent number: 4250628Abstract: A dryer in which fabrics are dryed quickly and at low temperature by subjecting them to microwave energy in an atmosphere of reduced pressure. The microwave energy elevates the temperature of the water within the fabric to its boiling point, which is quite low because of the reduced pressure, and the water vapor which is released from the fabric is condensed external to the microwave field at the same reduced pressure. In one embodiment the dryer is formed as a clothes dryer wherein the drying chamber is a spherical metallic vacuum vessel; the microwave energy is supplied by a solid state microwave array within the drying chamber; water vapor is condensed by a spray condenser external to the drying chamber; and reduced pressure is obtained by a water jet exhauster, which functions in part as a condenser. Drying time is accelerated by warming the lower surface of the drying chamber with hot water, and a jet of air fluffs the fabric after drying.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1979Date of Patent: February 17, 1981Inventors: Richard D. Patent number: 3982325Abstract: Solvent-drying, particularly of water-wetted materials, is accomplished through the use of specific azeotropic mixed-solvent systems. The azeotropic systems used in the method of the invention are those which form two or more separate layers, in which the water distribution equilibrium favors the concentration of water or other liquid being removed in one layer over the other. The water or other liquid, therefore, concentrates in one layer facilitating removal by separation of the layers. Drying of the material takes place in the other layer which maintains a constant liquid concentration sufficiently low so as to produce a substantially dried product. Temperature control of the solvent bath and separator contents results in a single-layer drying bath and facilitates separation in a preferred embodiment.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1975Date of Patent: September 28, 1976Assignee: Kimberly-Clark CorporationInventors: Wayne C.
