Patent number: 8330584Abstract: An inexpensive remote control that provides an easy means to block the function of trouble-prone keys. In one embodiment, the user presses the selected key for a short time to place that key into the locked mode. In another embodiment, the user presses a LOCK key and then presses the selected key to place that key into the locked mode. To change the key back to the unlocked mode, the same process is repeated. A LED can flash when a locked key is pressed to alert the user that the key is locked. Means to automatically lock a preferred set of keys and means to unlock all keys can also be provided. A key's function is blocked by either not sending a signal from the remote or by sending a unique lock code. No changes to components or manufacturing processes of existing remotes or controlled devices are needed.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 2009Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Inventor: John Pfanstiehl
