  • Patent number: 8319605
Abstract: A remote vehicle control system having a base transceiver mounted in a vehicle and a mobile key fob. The base transceiver utilizes an omni-directional antenna to communicate wirelessly with the key fob via the IEEE 802.15.4 communication protocol. Additional antennas are mounted to the vehicle and are also tuned to communicate over the IEEE 802.15.4 bandwidth. The additional antennas have radiation patterns extending outwardly to various sides of the vehicle (e.g., driver, passenger and rear sides). The system provides remote control functions and enables passive keyless entry functions such as unlocking doors or trunk latches by detecting the presence of the key fob proximate to one or more sides of the vehicle based on the ability of the key fob to communicate over IEEE 802.15.4 via the additional antennas.

  • Patent number: 8294832
Abstract: A remote control for an electronic device includes a plurality of keys, a power supply, a power control unit, a code modulating unit, and a transmitter. The plurality of keys generates different first electrical signals when actuated. The power supply is operable to power the remote control. The power control unit detects a voltage of the power supply, and generates a second electrical signal when the voltage of the power supply falls below a predetermined value. The code modulating unit generates different key code signals according to the different first electrical signals, and a switch code signal according to the second electrical signal. The transmitter converts the different key code signals and the switch code signal into different wireless signals, and transmits the different wireless signals to the electronic device.

  • Patent number: 8164420
Abstract: An RFID tag includes a sensor for determining a transient state or condition of a product to which the tag is associated, and a display. The tag may be passive, semi-passive, or active. In response to receipt at the tag of a read signal that includes a first value associated with the transient state or condition, a comparison is performed. The comparison compares the first value, with a second value generated by the sensor in response to receipt of the read signal. As a result of the comparison, an indication is provided on the display. The information displayed is a function of the comparison. In one embodiment, the display provides different color indications depending on the transient state or condition sensed. In an alternative embodiment, the RFID tag display includes an electrical or thermal charge-induced pigment release medium, e.g., an electronic ink, and the tag is used to communicate information about the state of a product to which the tag is associated.
