  • Patent number: 11260880
Abstract: In one embodiment, instead of using map data, a relative coordinate system is utilized to assist perception of the driving environment surrounding an ADV for some driving situations. One of such driving situations is driving on a highway. Typically, a highway has fewer intersections and exits. The relative coordinate system is utilized based on the relative lane configuration and relative obstacle information to control the ADV to simply follow the lane and avoid potential collision with any obstacles discovered within the road, without having to use map data. Once the relative lane configuration and obstacle information have been determined, regular path and speed planning and optimization can be performed to generate a trajectory to drive the ADV. Such a perception system is referred to as a relative perception system based on a relative coordinate system.

  • Patent number: 11226623
Abstract: The technology relates to determining whether a vehicle operating in an autonomous driving mode is experiencing an anomalous condition, for instance due to a loss of tire pressure, a mechanical failure, or a shift or loss of cargo. The actual current pose of the vehicle is compared to an expected pose of the vehicle, where the expected pose is based on a model of the vehicle. If a pose discrepancy is identified, the anomalous condition is determined from information associated with the pose discrepancy. The vehicle is then able to take corrective action based on the nature of the anomalous condition. The corrective action may include making a real-time driving change, modifying a planned route, alerting a remote operations center, or communicating with one or more other vehicles.

  • Patent number: 10963978
Abstract: A law enforcement (LE) data processing system (DPS) includes a processor that executes a LE security event notification and dispatch (SEND) utility. The LE DPS receives, from a tracking system communicatively coupled to the LE DPS, an enhanced security event notification (ESEN) that includes information identifying a security event, a location at which the security event occurred, and additional distinguishing details corresponding to entities involved in and affected by the security event. The LE DPS selectively transmits information from the updated ESEN to at least one LE dispatch server supporting LE personnel within one of (i) a geographic vicinity of the location of the security event and (ii) a calculated zone of recapture, the additional distinguishing details enabling the LE personnel to receive a more complete set of relevant details at a LE field device that enables more accurate identification, tracking, and resolution by LE personnel of the security event.

Abstract: A cargo tracking apparatus for detecting proximity to a cargo structure includes a cargo sensor, a location sensor, a wireless transmitter, and a processor, all disposed within a housing that is configured to be attached to the cargo structure. The cargo sensor, which is adjacent a sensor window in the housing, detects a portion of the cargo structure disposed near the sensor window and generates a cargo sensor signal based on detection or lack of detection of the cargo structure. The location sensor generates location information based on the location of the cargo tracking apparatus. The processor receives the cargo sensor signal and the location information, and based thereon generates alert messages that contain the location information and information indicative of whether the cargo structure is disposed near the cargo tracking apparatus. The wireless transmitter transmits the alert messages.
