The network lock system includes a lock mechanism and a device adapter for applying a power signal to a lock mechanism in which a bolt and a latch are locked together. The lock mechanism includes an electromagnet and a compressible spring. The power signal provides power to the electromagnet which causes the bolt to be attracted into the electromagnet by an electromagnetic force exceeding a compression force of a spring which causes the bolt to be released from the latch and causes the bolt to be surrounded by the electromagnet. Withdrawing the power signal from the lock mechanism removes the power provided to the lock mechanism which removes the electromagnetic force resulting in the compression force of the spring pushing the bolt into the latch causing the bolt and the latch to be locked together.

Abstract: A system and method for verifying entry credentials and activating/deactivating an access control system via use of the native capabilities of a mobile device is disclosed herein. Particularly, the system and method include an embedded local control device attached or communicative with an electronic gate or lock. The control device is communicative with a remote access control management system, which is structured to receive, track and manage access tokens that can be used to control access to a gated community or other secured location. Notifications that an access token has been generated can be communicated to the guest(s) by way of text message, short message service (SMS), email, social media, for example. Each notification may contain a unique link to a webpage employing the access token. While in the geographic vicinity of the secured location, the guest may actuate the access token and open the gate.

  • Patent number: 9531737
Abstract: A method for selectively checking data security sequences of received vehicle-to-X messages, in which a number of the vehicle-to-X messages are received and/or sent in an operating cycle of a vehicle-to-X communication system. In an operating cycle, a reliability assessment of the received vehicle-to-X message is performed by checking the data security sequence, an information content of the received messages is read without prior checking of the data security sequence. In the operating cycle, a subset of the number of received vehicle-to-X messages is selected on the basis of the information contents, and solely the data security sequences of selected vehicle-to-X messages are checked. This results in the advantage that a reliability assessment is no longer carried out on all the received vehicle-to-X messages before they are processed, thereby enabling a reduction in the checking capacity that must be reserved for checking the data security sequence.

  • Patent number: 9251700
Abstract: Disconnected from the powerline, a battery-powered receiver is configured to conserve power. The receiver communicates information between a local controller and a communication network that uses the powerline and a radio frequency (RF) band to propagate messages. An antenna wirelessly detects the presence of the powerline carrier signal that radiates into free space, which indicates a first message encoded onto the powerline. A computer processor wakes up from an inactive state based on the presence of the carrier signal and receives a second message via a second RF signal having a different frequency than the powerline carrier signal, and determines whether the device address in the second message is the assigned address of the receiver. If the message is not addressed to the receiver, the receiver returns to an inactive state.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is an improvement of methods and systems used to configure electronic components and modules to a vehicle. A low cost programmer tool, or key fob dongle, may manage devices coupled to a vehicle communication network. The system is designed for on-board management of multiple vehicle network protocols to support configuration of various electronic modules to a vehicle. A method for using a key fob dongle is disclosed herein. The method includes inserting the key fob dongle into an on-board diagnostic (OBD)-II connector of a vehicle, transmitting a communication detection request to the OBD-II connector, and beeping a predetermined amount of times in response to the communication detection request, wherein the beeping a predetermined amount of times identifies a vehicle communication protocol.

Abstract: A container including a reusable electronic seal, as well as a system and method for using the electronic seal are described. The container includes a closure member configured to detachably affix to a portion of the container, thereby sealing the container. In response to the closure member sealing the container, a signal generating component generates an electronic signal and transmits the electronic signal to a processing circuit operably connected to the signal generating component. The processing circuit includes a processing device configured to generate a unique code when the closure member is manipulated to open or close the container and an output device operably connected to the processing device and configured to output the unique code. The unique code is updated each time the container is opened, thereby providing a recipient with a way to determine whether the container has been opened during delivery.
