  • Patent number: 8299893
Abstract: Mobile transmitter configured to control any compatible barrier operator so as to move an access barrier to a closed position based on the change in angular and/or linear position of a carrying device. The mobile transmitter includes a position sensor and an activity sensor to monitor the change in position of the carrying device. Thus, when the angular and/or linear position of the carrying device changes by an amount greater than a predetermined threshold, the mobile transmitter automatically communicates a mobile command signal to the barrier operator commanding it to close the access barrier.

  • Patent number: 8284021
Abstract: A rolling code transmitter is useful in a security system for providing secure encrypted RF transmission comprising an interleaved trinary bit fixed code and rolling code. A receiver demodulates the encrypted RF transmission and recovers the fixed code and rolling code. Upon comparison of the fixed and rolling codes with stored codes and determining that the signal has emanated from an authorized transmitter, a signal is generated to actuate an electric motor to open or close a movable barrier.

  • Patent number: 8242885
Abstract: A system for providing intermittent communication while preserving a sterile area is provided. Sterility is preserved because the user can switch between transmitting and receiving mode without needing to touch a physical button, switch, or dial. The system is particularly valuable to doctors or dentists performing procedures. The system includes a two-way communication device coupled with a sensor, the sensor being capable of detecting the presence of an object, generally the user's hand or an instrumentality of the user, located closer than a predetermined distance from the sensor in a predetermined direction relative to the sensor. Upon such detection, the communication device is switched from receiving to tranmitting mode and remains in transmitting mode until a predetermined amount of time has elapsed since the object has ceased to be located within the predetermined distance in the predetermined direction of the sensor.

  • Publication number: 20120182153
Abstract: A means for recording the status of a garage door as having been left open or having been closed including a garage door sensor, a transmitter and a receiver. Whereas a typical automatic garage door takes 15-20 seconds to become fully closed, an operator will travel less than one-tenth of a mile from their garage in that time. A transmitter emits a one-quarter mile door status signal indicating whether the garage door is closed or open, and a one-quarter mile range signal indicating whether the receiver is within transmission range. Upon leaving transmission range the door status is recorded electrically so that an operator can travel any distance from the garage and determine if the garage door was closed.

  • Patent number: 8179229
Abstract: An operator system provides a mobile transmitter configured to communicate with a base operator to automatically open and close an access barrier based on the position of a carrying device that maintains the mobile transmitter. The mobile transmitter periodically transmits a mobile open signal as it moves away from the reception range of the base operator until that signal is lost. When the base operator again receives the open signal, the access barrier is automatically opened. In addition, the mobile transmitter is configured to monitor the change in position of the carrying device as it moves away from the enclosure. When the angular and/or linear position of the carrying device changes by an amount greater than a predetermined threshold, the mobile transmitter automatically transmits a mobile close signal to the base operator to close the access barrier.

Abstract: Special time domain techniques with novel circuitry are implemented for instantaneous precision frequency measurement of a signal comprised of short bursts emitted from a reference transmitter. Carrier frequency of the bursts is determined either by a special gated frequency counter or high speed sampling and spectral analysis. As a result of inherent precision frequency measurement and reproduction by using time domain techniques, the range of a combined unit, i.e., universal garage door openers UGDO and remote keyless entry RKE which is referred to as UT (Universal Transmitter) is further improved. Instantaneous determination of frequency and code of the reference transmitters is achieved and training procedure difficulties/failures which occur from auto-shutoff feature are totally eliminated.

  • Patent number: 7889050
Abstract: A method for training a trainable transmitter in a vehicle that includes receiving a request to enter a training mode of the trainable transmitter from a user, beginning a training mode of the trainable transmitter, receiving a control signal from an original transmitter associated with a remote control system, detecting a frequency and control data of the control signal. The method further includes determining if the control signal is a fixed code signal or a rolling code signal. If the control signal is a fixed code signal, storing the detected frequency and control data. If the control signal is a rolling code signal, comparing the detected control signal frequency to a plurality of predetermined frequencies and based on the comparison, shifting the detected frequency to match one of the predetermined frequencies.

Abstract: The subject of the present invention is a method for remote starting an internal combustion engine of a vehicle. The method includes detecting a wireless remote start signal; after detecting the wireless remote start signal, communicating with a garage door opener to determine if a garage door is closed; remote starting the engine if no closed garage door indication is received; transmitting a wireless garage door open signal and remote starting the engine if a closed garage door indication is received; monitoring a time since remote starting the engine; monitoring for vehicle operator interaction with the vehicle; and if no vehicle operator interaction with the vehicle is detected before the monitored time reaches a predetermined amount of time and the wireless garage door open signal was transmitted when the engine was remote started, automatically transmitting a wireless garage door close signal and automatically turning off the engine.

  • Patent number: 7884701
Abstract: A receiver is adapted to receive one or more wireless signals, while also being able to provide a barrier actuation signal to a barrier operator over a signaling line. The barrier operator may then be adapted to actuate a barrier in response to receiving the barrier actuation signal. The signaling line is further used to provide power from the barrier operator to the receiver. In one embodiment, the barrier operator is a garage door opener and the signaling line is coupled to the receiver and a garage door wall button. Alternatively, the receiver may replace the garage door wall button of the barrier operator.

  • Patent number: 7872565
Abstract: When a movable barrier operator detects (101) a predetermined state with respect to a remote transmitter learning mode, the movable barrier operator can respond by temporarily requiring (103) at least a first programmer protection duration of time to pass before permitting the movable barrier operator to respond to a remote transmitter-sourced barrier movement control signal. By one approach this first programmer protection duration of time is longer than a loss-of-signal detection duration as characterizes the movable barrier operator.

  • Patent number: 7855634
Abstract: A keypad transmitter for mounting outside a controlled area which may respond to the voice or other biometric indicia of users by transmitting validatable codes to a controller of a barrier movement system. The keypad may be used to send a validatable code or it may be used in a learning operation of the voice responsive portion. The voice responsive portion includes speaker dependent voice analysis for some functions and speaker independent voice analysis for other functions.

  • Patent number: 7855633
Abstract: A programmable remote control automatically learns characteristics necessary to generate an appliance activation signal. A sensor is positioned proximate to the appliance. A sequence of different activation signals is transmitted. A determination as to which signal activated the appliance is made based on a received sensor signal. Data representing the determined activation scheme is associated with an activation input.

  • Publication number: 20100301999
Abstract: An improved barrier door one way wireless communication system for operating a barrier, such as a garage door, includes the transmission and reception of multibit code hopping data packets in combination with automatic RF channel switching. Packet data is transmitted automatically on more than one RF channels in a switching style while sending two or more redundant multibit code hopping data packets on each of the RF channels. The system also provides for the learning of a transmitter to a receiver where two or more code hopping data packets must be received and decoded by the receiver on all RF channels before a transmitter can be learned to a receiver. Once the transmitter is learned, actuation of the transmitter during a learn mode can open a window for learning of a single channel transmitter.
