Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide for a biometric system with an optically adaptive interface. In some embodiments, an optically adaptive interface changes optical characteristics in response to the placement of a finger on the optically adaptive interface. In some embodiments, the optically adaptive interface can include an active layer and a surface layer. The active layer and the surface layer can have different optical properties. For example, one layer may be opaque and the other transparent, the two layers may have complementary colors, the two layers may have orthogonal polarization reflectors, one layer may be reflective and the other absorptive, etc. Moreover, the active layer can be a fluid with either high or low viscosity. For example, the viscosity can be such that the active layer fluid is either completely displaced or not displaced in locations corresponding to finger valleys.

Abstract: Systems and methods provided relate to patient sensors and/or patient monitors that recognize and/or identify a patient with physiological signals obtained from the sensor. A scalogram may be produced by applying a wavelet transform for the physiological signals obtained from the sensor. The scalogram may be a three dimensional model (having time, scale, and magnitude) from which certain physiological information may be obtained. For example, unique human physiological characteristics, also known as biometrics, may be determined from the scalograms. More specifically, monitoring the changes in the morphology of the photoplethysmographic (PPG) waveform transforms (e.g., scalogram) may determine patient-specific information that may be used to recognize and/or identify the patient, and that may be used to determine a proper or improper association between the patient and the wireless sensor and/or patient monitor.

  • Patent number: 8830032
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide an approach for confirming/verifying an identity of a test taker using a biometric analysis. For example, in the medical field, it is desirous to ensure that a given test is being administered to a correct individual (e.g., “test taker’). By comparing a given/submitted identity against a biometric-based identity, such verification can be performed. In one embodiment, the individual will submit biometric information via a biometric reader or the like coupled to a testing apparatus. The identity submitted by or on behalf of the individual (referred to herein as a “submitted identity”) will then be confirmed against the individual's identity as determined based on the biometric reading (referred to herein as a “biometric-based identity”). If the submitted identity and the biometric-based identity match, results of the test will be accepted. If the two identities do not match, then results of the test will be denied.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention implement dynamic elements within a RFID card. Specifically, the embodiments update card information dynamically, using a biometric image scanner (e.g., for scanning a fingerprint passively). The scanner is activated only when a user intends to use it with a designated reader by bringing the RFID card within the reader RF field range, thus preventing unauthorized reader's RFID scan. Even if an unauthorized reader comes into contact with the RFID card, the reader cannot read the user's biometric information, unless the user holds the card for use by the reader. Thus, unauthorized biometric information scanning is effectively prevented. The medium owned and controlled by the user collects a biometric fingerprint image for safety and security.

Abstract: An authentication string, such as a password, consists of characters. Each of the characters in the authentication string is randomly associated with a defined location on a device. For example, an area on a touch screen can be associated with a character in the authentication string. When a user selects a location associated with the character, feedback is provided that identifies the character. When the user selects a location that is not associated with the character, feedback is provided that does not identify the character. If the user responds by indicating that the associated location matches the character, the character is authenticated. If the user responds by indicating that a location not associated with the character is a match, the character is not authenticated. This process is then repeated for each character in the authentication string.

Abstract: The invention relates to the automatic detection of the presence of non-authorized persons in the vicinity of an apparatus of the aircraft type. To this end, the invention comprises equipping persons with radio transmitters for identifying them as authorized personnel. The aircraft are also fitted, such as at the existing PODs, with a transceiver device of a radio identification system of the RFID type for recognition of the persons wearing the radio transmitters. Only the persons who are not authorized in the vicinity of the aircraft initiate an alarm procedure.

Abstract: A technique for mapping a biometric credential of a user to a data value such as a key or password. A database stores multiple entries of biometric templates and associated data values for different users. One of the entries is a match for a particular user, and the remaining entries are randomly selected. The number of entries is reasonably large to provide a desired degree of randomness for a given entry, but smaller than a key space of the data values. Based on an input of a biometric sample of the user, a best match is selected from the entries of biometric templates, and the associated data value is used to authenticate the user. Two- or three-factor authentication can be provided. Additional factors can include a password provided by the user and a key which is encrypted by the data value of the matching entry.

  • Patent number: 8724856
Abstract: A method of verifying whether a user of a device corresponds to a previously authenticated user is disclosed. In some embodiments, a processing system has access to a first image and a second image. The first image is of an identity document comprising an image of the previously authenticated user and data identifying the authenticated user. The identity document has been validated by a trusted authority. The second image is an image captured by the device. The first image is compared to said second image to determine whether they are images of the same user. One of the images is designated as a higher quality image, and stored as a validated image along with an identifier for the previously authenticated user. The validated image may be used in a subsequent verification event. The identifying data is be stored with the identifier, whereby to enable said data to be retrieved in a subsequent verification event.

  • Patent number: 8723643
Abstract: In a method of switching a locked state of an electronic device with a user-verifying function, a biologic feature data from a user is captured while receiving an input from the user for an operation when the electronic device is in a locked state. Whether the biologic feature data conforms to a reference biologic feature data is then determined. If it is determined that the biologic feature data conforms to the reference biologic feature data, the electronic device is switched from the locked state into a non-locked state and directly controls the electronic device to perform the operation according to the input when the biologic feature data is determined conforming to the reference biologic feature data.

  • Patent number: 8723372
Abstract: A method of inducing a high efficiency conductive state at room temperature within a conductive mass (1) by injecting a complex modulated carrier signal (7) into one or more injection points (2,3) whereby the carrier signal and the subharmonic modulation frequencies (4,5,6) which are imbedded in the modulation of the carrier signal are tuned to the mass lattice qualities of the material. The amplitude and phase relationship of each individual subharmonic frequencies (4,5,6) are respectively tuned to the mass lattice qualities of the conductive mass (1). This method of excitation, with precise matching of subharmonic modulation frequencies, and with a precise matching concordant harmonic of the carrier frequency, creates an observed ionic excitation throughout the conductive mass (1) at room temperature.
