  • Patent number: 10972429
Abstract: A method may include receiving an outbound communication directed to one or more recipient addresses from a communications infrastructure hosting the true address for the user. A server or similar intermediary may generate an alias address for each recipient address in an outbound communication so that each recipient may communicate with the true address using a unique reply channel. A discrete security state may be assigned as a security attribute to each such alias address. The discrete security state, which can be controlled by the user and stored, e.g., at the intermediate server, establishes rules for controlling communications from one of the recipient addresses through the communications infrastructure to the true address via one of the alias addresses. Once an alias and a security state are assigned in this manner to facilitate handling of responsive communications, the outbound communication may be forwarded to recipient addresses through the communication network.

  • Patent number: 9654955
Abstract: When a PSAP receives a call from a cellular telephone in reference to an emergent event, the speed and quality of the response may be improved by the cellular service provider's provision to the PSAP of information that includes the geographic location of the caller's phone. In a typical scenario, in which the call is from a GPS-equipped phone, the GPS coordinates of the phone may be echoed back to the PSAP in response to a specialized open “ping” request from the service provider. Of particular advantage to this approach is that GPS ping requests typically work regardless of whether a call is in progress, as long as the phone is turned on.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus enabling a wireless network to optimize paging channel operation, based on mobile device context information. In one embodiment, the wireless network is a cellular network (e.g., LTE-Advanced), and both base stations and cellular user devices dynamically exchange and maintain a paging agreement. The paging agreement limits the paging channel operation, thereby minimizing unnecessary scanning and usage of irrelevant radio resources. Such paging mechanisms are limited to the air interface between the base station and the mobile device, and are compatible with existing legacy devices and network entities. Abstract: A short message transaction system has a computer that communicates in an online Internet protocol that forms active sessions. A wireless device communicates in a protocol that transmits and receives messages that have a maximum size limit of a predetermined number of alphanumeric characters substantially smaller than the number of alphanumeric characters transmitted in a communication of the computer. A database is also provided. A surrogate communicates with the wireless device and the computer. The surrogate collects data from a plurality of messages from the wireless device and provides the data for storage in the database. The computer then runs online sessions using the stored data.

Abstract: A method and device are configured to generate alerts that are varied based upon whether an incoming communication is perceived to be mode (i.e., a non-urgency mode), with different tactile-based patterns being dependent upon the selection of the mode. That is, the patterns of the alerts for providing notification of urgent communications are distinguishable from the patterns of alerts for providing notification of non-urgent communications. In the preferred embodiment, the communications device allows a user to assign particular vibrational patterns to specific sources of incoming communications, so that the vibration pattern identifies the urgency pattern and the original source of the communication. In the pager application, the pager may be configured by a user to uniquely associate a particular callback number with a first alert that is used when the pager is in the urgency mode and a second alert that is used when the pager is in the normal mode.

Abstract: A system for monitoring the location of individuals, such as parolees, includes a wearable device worn by the individual and a portable device operatively coupled to the wearable device. The portable device is operatively coupled to a monitoring system through a wireless telephone network. The portable device transmits periodically encrypted location information as well as status information across the wireless network to the monitoring system. The monitoring system tracks the location of the individual and alerts the appropriate authorities when the individual violates a rule, such as a condition for parole. The portable device increases the time between transmissions when the individual is within a specified home location and reduces the time between transmissions when outside the specified location.

  • Patent number: 6584313
Abstract: A novel and improved method for performing paging is described. In one embodiment of the invention a searcher is used to detect spread spectrum signals. Samples received RF signals are stored in a sample buffer. During standby mode, the samples are gathered during paging slots assigned to the mobile. A set of searches are performed on the samples, and if pilot signals are detected additional demodulation is performed to detect paging messages. The resulting set of demodulation data may be combined to increase detection. After a page message has been detected, additional demodulation resources may be activated to processes more complete page messages, or other information channels. In one embodiment of the invention, the searcher includes a demodulator to perform quick page detection without the use of finger elements to reduce idle mode power consumption.

  • Patent number: 6546255
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method in a cellular mobile communication system for transmitting Pages, and such a system. The cells of the system are subdivided into two classes. To which class a cell is assigned is decided by its capacity to transmit Pages or by the amount of Page responses received within the cells. When paging a mobile station, the Page is first transmitted in the cells of the first class. If no response is received to that Page, the Page is transmitted also in the cells of the second class. An advantage is that there will be fewer Pages congested due to lack of capacity for transmission. Transmitted Pages in the cells of the second class are primarily transmitted to mobile stations that are really present within those cells. Thereby the probability increases that all mobile stations will be reached by Pages intended for them.

Abstract: According to the invention, a method for paging from a pagor to a pager is disclosed. In one step, a page is sent wirelessly to the pager and received from the pagor. After determining that the pagee has not responded to the page for a predetermined time period, the page is converted to a message and a message-waiting indicator is activated.

Abstract: When a page message containing a caller ID is received from a caller, a call back message containing one of prepared response messages is transmitted to a call number associated with the caller ID. For this, the system displays the prepared response messages and prompts the user to select one of them. A call back message is compiled from a call back number associated with a caller ID contained in the page message and the selected response message. The call back message is transmitted to the call back number. The compilation of call back message is performed such that the format of call back message is adapted to the type of the caller's communication device associated with the caller ID.

  • Patent number: 6289224
Abstract: A target communication device (106) determines a length of time needed to transmit outbound information. The target communication device then transmits to a sending communication device (112) an indication of a timer value based on the length of time needed to transmit the outbound information. The sending communication device receives the indication and transmits information to the target communication device. The sending communication device determines a timer length using the indication of the timer value and starts a timer, associated with the information transmitted, with the timer length determined.
