  • Patent number: 9860846
Abstract: Devices, methods and computer-readable media for controlling a device timeout parameter are disclosed. For example, a device receives a condition for modifying a timeout parameter and a modification. The device then detects the condition for modifying the timeout parameter and applies the modification to the timeout parameter in response to detecting the condition. A method determines a maximum time for a timeout parameter of a device and transmits a message to the device indicating the maximum time for the timeout parameter. A further method determines a condition for modifying a timeout parameter of a device and a modification. The method then transmits a message to the device indicating the condition for modifying the timeout parameter of the device and the modification.

  • Patent number: 9749986
Abstract: Various mechanisms for paging link-budget-limited (LBL) devices are disclosed, including: (1) transmitting paging message with non-conventional paging identifier; (2) transmitting paging message(s) with increased power; (3) repeating transmission of paging message to support combining at receiver. Various mechanisms for UE device to signal LBL status are disclosed, including, transmitting status flag or special value of DRX cycle to network node as part of tracking area update and/or attach request. The network node informs a base station of the device's LBL status as part of a paging message. (The network node may, e.g., assign an S-RNTI to the LBL device from a reserved subset of S-RNTI space.) The base station invokes a paging enhancement mechanism when paging an LBL device. Alternatively, the base station may page UE devices without knowledge of LBL status, e.g., by counting paging attempts for a given UE, and boosting power after the Nth paging attempt.

  • Patent number: 9001723
Abstract: A method and system for managing broadcast of notifications indicating whether system information has changed, so as to enable served devices to determine when to read and store updated system information. A radio access network tracks changes in system information on a per wakeup cycle basis, so as to determine whether system information has changed since a last instance of broadcasting such a notification in a particular wakeup cycle. If system information has changed, the network responsively broadcasts an indication that system information has changed, so as to cause devices operating on that wakeup cycle to read and store the updated system information. Whereas, if system information has not changed, the network responsively broadcasts an indication that system information has not changed (or forgoes broadcasting an indication that system information has changed), so that devices operating on that wakeup cycle can avoid reading and storing the system information.

Abstract: A paging transceiver and method for selectively paging provides a page to a paging transceiver but does not automatically provide an associated message. The paging transceiver receives the page and alerts the user that information is waiting and provides an identifier for the information. The user can then download or otherwise act on the information at a time and at a place convenient to the user. The paging system conserves air time and the paging transceiver conserves memory by not automatically receiving the associated information. The paging transceiver can receive transmissions during off-peak hours and has a timer which can be programmed so that information is delivered at a desired time. The paging transceiver allows a user to erase information stored at the paging transceiver and corresponding information stored at a remote system. When information is erased, the paging transceiver preferably keeps the identifier in memory and does not write over the message.

  • Patent number: 6433669
Abstract: A radio paging receiver including a data memory (1) for memorizing message data and error indication data to overwrite the message data, a control unit (2) for overwriting the message data with the error indication data when the message data contains an error and transmitting for message display the message data overwritten with the error indication data, a display unit (5) for displaying the message data (including the error indication data in presence of the error), a code programmer (4) for setting a program for entering the error indication data in correspondence to code identification in response to an indication request, and an error identification memory (3) for rewritably memorizing the error indication data in correspondence to the code identification.

  • Patent number: 6411197
Abstract: A radio selective call receiver for receiving an interleaved selective calling signal with reduced power consumption is disclosed. The Interleaved address data is converted to address data for each of the addresses. A timing detector detects predetermined decision timing based on the interleaved address data. The predetermined decision timing is set at a desired position within a block of the interleaved address data. An interim comparator is provided to compare partial address data for each of the addresses with a counterpart of its own address at the predetermined decision timing. The radio system is selectively powered on and off at the predetermined decision timing based on comparison results for the received addresses.

  • Patent number: 6289227
Abstract: A method and apparatus for scheduling the paging wake-up time in a wireless mobile station. The decision to wake-up a mobile station in order to decode a slotted paging message is determined probabilistically. An initial missed page rate constant, M, is loaded within the mobile station. A measurement of the particular mobile station paging rate, R, is made over a time period T. The measured paging rate R is compared to the initial missed page rate constant M. If the missed page rate M is greater than the measured paging rate R the mobile station does not respond to the next paging slot. If the missed page rate M is less than the measured paging rate R a number based on the ratio of M to R is used as an input to a uniform random number generator. The output of the uniform random number generator determines whether or not to wake-up during the next paging slot. The measured paging rate R is updated as a running average.
