  • Patent number: 9749962
Abstract: Various embodiments of methods and systems for closed loop multimode sleep clock frequency compensation in a portable computing device are disclosed. An exemplary embodiment leverages a modem to determine a frequency shift on a sleep clock signal when a reference clock has transitioned into a power saving mode. Using the frequency shift calculation, a compensation capacitor may be adjusted to deliver a more optimum dummy load on the crystal oscillator when the reference clock is taken offline. The method may iterate through until the actual frequency shift of the sleep clock is within an acceptable tolerance relative to zero and, further, may also set a status bit to indicate that the sleep clock frequency is stable.

  • Patent number: 9606604
Abstract: In high-speed link structures a receiver outputs a signal detect indicator (SDI) with a first logic value when transmissions are detected and a second logic value when suspension of transmissions is detected. A controller detects transitions in the SDI and causes corresponding transitions in an energy detect indicator (EDI). A physical control sublayer (PCS) has different operating states that cause the receiver to operate in different power modes and transitions between the operating states based on the EDI. If the EDI has the second logic value, the PCS remains in a non-active state and the receiver operates in a low power idle (LPI) mode. When the EDI transitions to the first logic value, the PCS exits the non-active state and the receiver operates in a non-LPI mode. To ensure that the PCS properly enters and doesn't pre-maturely exit the non-active state, EDI transitions to the first logic value are delayed.

  • Patent number: 9001723
Abstract: A method and system for managing broadcast of notifications indicating whether system information has changed, so as to enable served devices to determine when to read and store updated system information. A radio access network tracks changes in system information on a per wakeup cycle basis, so as to determine whether system information has changed since a last instance of broadcasting such a notification in a particular wakeup cycle. If system information has changed, the network responsively broadcasts an indication that system information has changed, so as to cause devices operating on that wakeup cycle to read and store the updated system information. Whereas, if system information has not changed, the network responsively broadcasts an indication that system information has not changed (or forgoes broadcasting an indication that system information has changed), so that devices operating on that wakeup cycle can avoid reading and storing the system information.

Abstract: Techniques for detecting other stations in a power efficient manner are described. A station may operate in a passive mode or a search mode. In the passive mode, the station receives for one receive period in each time interval. In the search mode, the station transmits for a series of transmit periods in one time interval, then receives for one receive period in the next time interval, and repeats the transmit/receive cycle. In an example scenario, station A operates in the search mode and sends a series of transmissions during its transmit periods. Station B operates in the passive mode, receives a transmission from station A during its receive period, switches to the search mode, and sends a series of transmissions for one time interval. Station A receives a transmission from station B during its receive period. After detecting one another, stations A and B may perform synchronization.

Abstract: There is therefore a need to forward the message waiting indication data to Mobile Switching Centers whose service areas overlap with the service area of the Mobile Switching Center presently serving this mobile subscriber's wireless communication device. In this manner, any one of these Mobile Switching Centers can update the mobile subscriber with regard to message waiting indications. This is accomplished by the use of the ISPAGE message which is used to forward the message waiting indication data to Mobile Switching Centers whose service areas overlap with the service area of the Mobile Switching Center presently serving this mobile subscriber's wireless communication device.

Abstract: A method for reducing current drain in a communication device includes a step of determining when the communication device is transmitting. A next step includes lowering the current level to the receiver when communication device is not transmitting. A next step includes raising the current level to the receiver when communication device is transmitting. Changing the current level alters the linearity of the receiver. As a result, the communication device reduces power consumption while operating in a traffic channel. The system is applicable to full duplex systems such as code division multiple access (CDMA) systems.

Abstract: A system and method for conserving power in a radio communication network wherein a radio receiver periodically scans for a transmitted signal. If a signal is not received after a predetermined period of time, the period between scans is increased. In a multi-unit system, the scan periods are offset from an absolute time reference to prevent more than one unit from transmitting at the same time.

  • Patent number: 6603390
Abstract: If a received signal includes a message signal following the address of the pager concerned, a decoder section decodes the message signal and a control section stores it in a memory section together with a reception time. At this time, the control section judges whether the message signal includes a sender identification code or a consecutive transmission code. If either code exists, the control section stores it in the memory section together with the message. The control section reads message data from the memory section, and a display control section controls a display section to display the message. If the message includes a sender identification code or a continuous transmission code, the control section searches for messages to be displayed together with the current message from among the other messages stored in the memory section, and the display control section controls the display section to display the found messages en bloc.
