Alert Patents (Class 340/7.58)
  • Patent number: 7941161
Abstract: System for providing alert-based communication services for which corresponding alert conditions to be met by mobile stations are defined. The system includes an alert engine capable of firing alerts associated with the alert-based communication services if location data regarding the mobile stations is indicative of the mobile stations meeting the alert conditions corresponding to the alert-based communication services. A requirements engine is provided for determining an expected earliest future time at which at least one alert condition is capable of being met by a particular mobile station and outputting a data element indicative of a requirement to obtain updated location data about the particular mobile station in advance of the expected earliest future time.

  • Patent number: 7876213
Abstract: A personal annunciation device (PAD) providing, in an area of interest, compensatory annunciation of the presence of an abnormal condition in a hazardous area and accountability of the user of the PAD. Compensatory annunciation supplements primary annunciation provided by an emergency notification system (ENS). A detection system detects an abnormal condition, and a wireless transmission system transmits a wireless transmission to the PAD. The PAD has a housing enclosing the components of the PAD including a communication module for receiving the wireless transmission, a power supply, processor, memory, annunciation system, and RFID module. The RFID module has an RFID receiver that listens for an RFID transmission from an RFID reader disposed in a portal of an area of interest. The PAD identifies the transmission and changes its operating state based on the transmission. The RFID readers recognize, record, and transmit the state of the PAD to a base station providing accountability of the wearer.

A data token provided to the customer includes an encoded customer identifier which the customer inputs into one of a plurality of paging receivers that are mounted on different tables in the restaurant. Each of the paging receivers includes a data input device for reading the data token, and storing the customer identifier in a database. A programmable paging transmitter broadcasts a paging message in the restaurant that includes a broadcast customer identifier. Each of the fixed paging receivers receives the broadcast paging message, extracts the broadcast customer identifier, and compares the broadcast customer identifier with the customer identifier stored in its database. The paging receiver that determines a match generates an alert signal to alert the customer.

Abstract: An apparatus for alerting a user at an alerting device that data has been delivered to a wireless communication device includes an adapter that receives a data receipt signal from the communication device and activates an associated alerting device after verifying its identify. Verifying the identity of the alerting device includes comparing an alerting device identifier, which is either stored or delivered to the alerting device from a remote location, with a communication device identifier that is embedded or otherwise included with the data that is delivered to the associated communication device. The alerting device is activated if the comparison shows that the alerting device is that which corresponds to the communication device that received the data. Alerting devices may be incorporated into jewelry, garments releasable straps and other objects that are convenient for the user.

  • Patent number: 6459362
Abstract: A person paging method in which a first user (A) wishes to page and transmit a message to a second user (B) with the aid of a paging service. The first user (A) requests paging of the second user (B) at a paging central (1) which offers an alerting service and a message service which supplements the alert with the message. The paging central (1) alerts the second user (B) by means of the alerting service. The invention is characterized in that the paging service is not associated with any particular telecommunication network, but can be performed in at least one telecommunication network (e.g. in N1 and N5) chosen from among at least two possible telecommunication networks (N1-N5). The message service is also made independent of the alerting service, in that the message service is not activated until a request to do so is received from the second user.

Abstract: A transmitted signal including a message and address data is received. A plurality of sets of assigned address data is stored. A received message is stored when an address data in a received transmitted signal agrees with any of the stored assigned address data sets. A user is alerted when a command signal causes the message to be read from storage. A counter counts the number of times the message is received when the address data in the received transmitted signal agrees with one of the assigned address data sets. The count is compared to a reference. An alarm issues when the count exceeds the reference.

Abstract: An electron device, in which accommodation space for a display can be extended over the space where a speaker is supposed to be disposed, is realized. A portable terminal, as an example of an electron device, is provided with a display/speaker section, an operating section, and a microphone on the front surface of its main body. The portable terminal does not have an independent speaker. A display cover located in front of the display/speaker section for protecting the display surface vibrates in response to an audio signal by a drive to output sound. Consequently, the display can be situated even over the space where a speaker is supposed to be disposed.

Abstract: A communication apparatus of the present invention includes a message storage 8 and an unconfirmed message number storage 9. When the apparatus receives a radio signal, a message contained in the radio signal is written to the message memory 8. At the same time, the number of unconfirmed messages stored in the unconfirmed message number storage 9 is incremented by 1 (one). An LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) 10 and an alert section 11 cooperate to alert the user of the apparatus to a call incoming. When the user presses a switch 5 in response to the alert, a CPU (Central Processing Unit) 7 determines that the user has confirmed the received message. At this time, the number of unconfirmed messages stored in the storage 9 is decremented by 1 and then displayed on the LCD 10. If the user does not press the switch 5 within a preselected period of time, then the CPU 7 determines that the received message has not been confirmed, and displays the number of unconfirmed messages stored in the storage 9 on the LCD 10.

Abstract: An apparatus for providing a temperature based alerting signal to a user to alert the user to the occurrence of a particular or predetermined event. The temperature based alerting device may be incorporated into jewelry, garments, or a releasable strap and includes at least one spot heating element that is maintained in substantial contact with the user's skin. Upon detected occurrence of the predetermined event, as for example an incoming telephone call or page, the user is silently alerted by a change in the temperature of the spot heating element in contact with the user's skin. Subsequent action by the user, as for example answering of the incoming call or page, causes the temperature based alerting device to reset to an initial, non-alert state.

  • Patent number: RE39231
Abstract: In a communication terminal equipment and in a method of controlling call incoming, unnecessary noises in a period from the start of an alert sound to carrying out of the next operation can be reduced. When a predetermined operation is effected under the condition that an alert sound is ringing, the alert sound is stopped or the volume of the alert sound is reduced at least over a duration of call incoming. Thus, such a fear that persons in the surroundings may be troubled by the continuous ringing of the alert sound can be remarkably reduced. Further, since the situation that a power supply is cut off forcibly during all origination can be avoided, the fear that a person on the call origination side may be given an unpleasant feeling can be eliminated.
