Map Display Patents (Class 340/995.1)
  • Patent number: 7839306
Abstract: A map display method whereby the contents of a road map displayed can be easily and clearly grasped regardless of the running conditions of a vehicle. In a summarized map displayed on a display screen 10, an area including a vehicle position 11, a destination 13 and a guide route 12 between them is displayed in simplified fashion. At a position far from the destination, as shown in FIG. 2A, a summarized map of a wide area is displayed and objects including a road 14 and a facility 15 are limited to a greater degree. With the approach of the vehicle position 11 to the destination 13, as shown in FIG. 2B, the contraction scale is decreased and a summarized map of a middle area is displayed, while at the same time increasing the objects displayed. With a further approach of the vehicle position 11 to the destination 13, as shown in FIG.

  • Patent number: 7825794
Abstract: The computerized system provides a method to track Alzheimer's patients and other diseases that affect the patient's ability to contact and communicate their location or vital information to their caregivers. The system applies an electronic tag to each patient of a multiplicity of patients or only to non-confined patients and employs a computer to maintain information about their location and well being. Use is made of a global positioning system to locate a lost patient as well as to track movements of the patient. A history of the movement of the patient may also be plotted on a map. Additional components of the tag gather and relay information about the patient's condition and other environmental data. In addition, the use of a an additional external transmitter keeps the wearable tag in a low power “sleep” mode when it is in range, preserving the internal battery and only consuming power when the tag moves out of range of the external transmitter.

  • Patent number: 7826965
Abstract: The present invention provides systems and methods for computing a relevance rank or score of a point of interest based on its proximity to clusters of other points of interest (POI). The methods of the present invention are based upon novel approaches that use location information and weighting functions in order to filter and sort searches of hotels, destinations, and other properties or other points of interest. In one approach, a relevance rank of a target POI at a location is determined by obtaining a plurality of component POIs that are each within the same geographical region as the target POI. Component POI scores for each of the component POIs are calculated as a function of a distance between the locations of the component POI and the location of the target POI. The relevance rank of the target POI is a combination of the plurality of component POI scores.

Abstract: An information processing device and method, a program, and an information processing system, for location identification at small granularity with high accuracy are disclosed. A portable terminal has a camera in addition to a GPS module. In a location recognition model construction phase, a location recognition model is constructed from an image sequence taken by the camera, associated with location information collected by the GPS module and the like, and stored. In a location identification phase, the current location in a global area is identified by the GPS module, and the current location in a local area is identified on the basis of the location recognition model selected from the identification result and the image sequence obtained at the time. The present invention can be applied to portable terminals such as notebook type personal computers, PDAs and mobile telephones.

Abstract: This method allows the calculation, using a terrain elevation database, of a map of the distances of the points accessible to a mobile object subjected to dynamic constraints evolving with its time of travel, for example an aircraft having an imposed vertical flight profile, the distances being measured solely according to paths achievable by the mobile object. It implements a propagation-based distance transform which catalogs the achievable paths going from a goal point whose distance is to be estimated to a source point which is the origin of the distance measurements and likens the distance of the goal point to the length of the shortest achievable path or paths.

Abstract: A navigation device utilizes stored user profiles to navigate a user who may be driving in a vehicle, on foot, or in other mode of transportation. Each user profile corresponds to one of the user's personae. For example the user business profile corresponding to the user's business persona may be different from the user personal profile corresponding to the user's personal persona. The navigation device provides the user with a navigated route, together with information concerning the favorite facilities and events surrounding the navigated route, which satisfy the preferences in a selected user profile. Blockages may also be established using the device to avoid selected areas, or to block transmission of selected information.

Abstract: When a guiding route is included in a display target region at a photograph display mode, route data of the guiding route is also read. Within the read route data, information of a region for editing a photograph is stored. This information includes a road kind (color information), coordinates of the start/end points of the road, and a road width when editing is for a road. Next, photograph data is read, so that a color of the photograph data is edited based on the stored information of the route data. For instance, a color of the photograph data in a corresponding road region is changed to red that represents “national road.

Abstract: A method for generating driver assistance information of a traveling vehicle. The method can restructure traveling environments into an image based on a sensor system capable of removing blind spots around a traveling vehicle, and a scheme capable of exactly detecting a lane and a vehicle, and give a collision warning when there is a possibility of collision. Further, the method integrates recognition results of front/rear vehicles based on a lane recognition method applicable to various road environments, including the shape, curvature and loss of a lane, improves the stability of lane recognition, and distinguishes a solid line from a dot line, so it is possible to provide a driver with the subdivided degrees of danger. In addition, when a vehicle deviates from a lane, a voice warning may be output and the position of the vehicle for a road is restructured as an image.

  • Patent number: 7711478
Abstract: A novel mapping paradigm is provided for the visual display of information in the form of an improved navigational aid. Unlike today's road maps which use a point-arc-polygon paradigm, the new mapping paradigm uses a compressed linear-pictographic-topological design that typically depicts roads as vertical linear pictograms. Further, the display has a columnar layout, whereby the descriptive elements are grouped together by type, and displayed one above the other in columns. In this manner, the mapping paradigm also serves to increase traveler safety, provide navigation assistance during address-less trips, create valuable advertising space and new promotional opportunities, and dramatically increases the travelers' communications and entertainment options.
