  • Patent number: 9542014
Abstract: A stylus device is disclosed that provides a low power and low latency methodology of detecting a touch down event. In an aspect, the stylus device monitors an output of a pressure sensor of the stylus device using an analog comparator, a low power consumption component. When the output of the pressure sensor is greater than a first threshold value, thus indicating physical contact between the tip of the stylus device and a surface, the stylus device determines the output of the pressure sensor using an analog-to-digital converter, a higher power consumption component, to obtain a more accurate measurement of the pressure detected by the pressure sensor. When the output of the pressure sensor is less than a second threshold value, for example, indicative of non-use, the stylus device reverts back to monitoring the output of the pressure sensor using the analog comparator.

Abstract: A touch pen includes a sleeve, a contact element, a sensing device and a buffering element. The contact element is penetrated through the sleeve and movably relative to the sleeve. The contact element and the sensing device are separated from each other by the buffering element. While the contact element is moved in response to an external force applied to touch pen, the impact of the contact element on the sensing device is largely reduced because the contact element and the sensing device are separated from each other by the buffering element. Moreover, since the external force is received by the buffering element, the sensing device can be protected by the buffering element. Consequently, the failure probability of the touch pen is reduced.

  • Patent number: 9423877
Abstract: Multi-dimensional gesture input to a computing device can be improved by providing a mechanism to lock or reduce the effects of motion in unintended directions. In one example, a user can navigate in two dimensions, then provide a selection action through motion in a third dimension. If a computing device analyzing the gesture is able to detect the selection action, the device can limit motion outside the corresponding third dimension in order to ensure that the proper selection action is performed. Various thresholds, values, or motions can be used to limit motion in one or more axes for any appropriate purpose as discussed herein.

  • Patent number: 9396566
Abstract: With some splines, such as cardinal splines, irregularly spaced data points may cause undesired bumps. Bump moderation makes a spline curve more visually appealing by reducing bumps, and by doing so even if the curve happens to be already smooth in a mathematical sense. Data points P1, P2, and P3 are not suitably spaced an outlier is present in a set of linear distances between the points. The bump is moderated by moving a point of the spline along a pathway to a position for which the data points P1, P2, and P3 are suitably spaced. The pathway may be a Bezier segment or a line segment. A point is moved on the pathway to its midpoint, or to a particular portion of the pathway such as its central third or central fifth.
