  • Patent number: 9176607
Abstract: When a handwritten image is input using a handwriting input device while an image based on any general data stored in a storage unit is being displayed on a display unit, the input/output apparatus displays a handwritten image in addition to the displayed image, and creates handwritten data including data specifying information specifying general data which is a basis for the displayed image. The input/output apparatus terminates the display of the handwritten image when the display of the image superposed by the handwritten image is terminated, and displays the image based on the data specified by the data specifying information included in the handwritten data when the handwritten image is displayed. This allows the association between the displayed image and the handwritten image to be saved and to easily be reproduced.

  • Patent number: 9177373
Abstract: A method, system, computer program product, and computer readable media for a semi-automated surface extraction approach to delineating an object of interest (OOI) from 3-D medical image data sets. This approach is imaging modality independent and results in enhanced displays of blob-like anatomies, including internal organs (e.g., cardiac chambers, liver) or disease processes (e.g., tumor masses). In an embodiment of the method: (I) the user provides multiple representative points located on the surface of the OOI using a Multi-Planar Reconstruction (MPR) tool; (2) those Cartesian points are translated into polar coordinates (each 3-D point is represented via two angles and a height), which uniquely define the surface points for a radial object, (3) a Radial-Basis Function (RBF) interpolator, with a Thin Plate Spline (TPS) radial function, finds the height function for the polar domain, and (4) polar domain representation of the OOI surface is converted back to Cartesian coordinates.

  • Patent number: 8988434
Abstract: A system and method for rendering text data in web applications is provided that eliminates redundant processing. Constant resources are pre-computed and work is offloaded from the central processing unit to the graphics processing unit. This is generally accomplished by pre-computing before any rendering. A generic index vertex buffer object is created, and for each font, a glyph texture object and glyph position texture object are created. A frame including text is then rendered in which a glyph string texture object is created. For each character, a glyph index-to-texture and glyph offset to-texture is appended. A glyph texture, glyph position texture and glyph string texture are then bound, and the generic index vertex buffer object using a custom vertex shader is rendered.

The font execution instructions can be scanned (e.g., by examining tables) to identify one or more common instruction sets in the font execution instructions. A function can be defined for a common instruction set, and the instances or appearances of the common instruction set in the font execution instructions can be replaced with a call to the function. Because the call is generally smaller (e.g., comprises fewer lines of code) than the common instruction set it replaces, the number of execution instructions for the font is reduced.

Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method that displays a document that includes several glyphs on a touch screen display. The method receives a touch input on the touch screen display to activate a zoom tool enabling location of a position indicator within a set of associated glyphs. The method automatically divides a touch screen region for the set of associated glyphs into sub-regions. Each sub-region is associated with a position indicator location between two subsequent glyphs. A first sub-region associated with a location between first and second glyphs has a same width as a second sub-region associated with a location between the second glyph and a third glyph. Abstract: A multicore system 2 includes a main system program 610 that operates on a first processor core 61 and stores synthesized audio data, which is mixed audio data, to a buffer for DMA transfer 63, a standby program 620 that operates on a second processor 62, and an audio output unit 64 that sequentially stores the synthesized audio data transferred from the buffer for DMA transfer 63 and plays the stored synthesized audio data. When an amount of storage of the synthesized audio data stored to the buffer for DMA transfer 63 has not reached a predetermined amount of data determined according to the amount of storage of the synthesized audio data stored to the audio output unit 64, the standby system program 620 takes over and executes the mixing and the storage of the synthesized audio data that is executed by the main system program 610.

Abstract: The interactive electronic book can be displayed on a dual-screen electronic device, with a first screen that displays the text of the book, and a second screen that displays the contextual references. Links to the contextual references can be displayed on the first screen alongside the text or embedded in the text. The contextual references can be historical descriptions, pictures, videos, contemporaneous writings and so on that help to put the text of the book in context. The contextual references can relate to the portion of the text that is displayed on the first screen. Different modes allow for the displayed text to be shown in marked mode, or unmarked mode. The interactive electronic book can also include testing software which tests the reader on their understanding of the text. The interactive electronic book can also be updated with new texts and contextual references.

Abstract: A information display apparatus includes a content storage module, a controller, a specification module, and a marker information storage module. The controller controls a text to be displayed. The specification module specifies, based on a user's operation, a character string, as a marker display character string in the displayed text. The marker information storage module stores position information of the marker display character string within a storage region of the content storage module, and stores a stored time where the position information is stored as being related to the position information. The controller allows the text in an identifiable manner based on the position information, wherein a mode of the identifiable display is differed in accordance with time elapsed since the stored time for the marker display character string.

  • Patent number: 8866820
Abstract: A difference of coordinate values stored adjacent to each other is compressed by means of a statistical coding system when reading out outline font data storing coordinate values necessary for drawing a contour of a character in order of drawing the contour in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction and also a category of a line connecting a pair of coordinates simultaneously, followed by compressing the coordinate values of the outline font data. A value of a result of subtracting “A?1” from a difference of coordinate values is determined to be a difference value of coordinates if the difference of coordinate value is equal to or greater than a certain value A, and a code expressing the difference value of “0” is added in front of the codes of difference values that are smaller than the value A in the case of a category of line connecting adjacent coordinates to each other being a straight line.

  • Patent number: 8854375
Abstract: A computer-implemented method is disclosed for transforming a binary dot-matrix font to a gray dot-matrix font. The method includes generally five steps. First, a binary dot-matrix outline shape is received, which is designed to render a binary dot-matrix character image on a binary dot-matrix display. The binary dot-matrix outline shape includes one or more curve segments. Second, the received dot-matrix outline shape and the binary dot-matrix character image that can be rendered based on the received outline shape are placed on a lattice coordinate system composed of a plurality of dots. Third, for each of the one or more curve segments, intersecting points at which the curve segment intersects with the plurality of dots in the lattice coordinate system are recorded. Fourth, an anti-aliasing operation is performed on the binary dot-matrix outline shape placed on the lattice coordinate system to obtain a target gray value for each of the dots that are intersected by the one or more curve segments.

Abstract: A method of showing the time of day by displaying a mathematical expression. A display capable of showing numbers, letters, and other characters is used. A plurality of numbers in conjunction with one or more mathematical symbols is displayed to create a mathematical expression which changes at regular intervals. Evaluating the expression according to mathematical conventions yields a number that represents the current time of day. Such a device will serve to stimulate the mind by providing a different mental exercise at regular intervals, with the built-in reward for success being the ability to determine the time of day. Expressions can be easy or difficult to evaluate, geared to any number of different types and abilities of viewers.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer program for high-speed, efficient text rendering are disclosed. In accordance with certain embodiments of the present invention, an image resource architecture is provided for optimal sub-image uploads to keep the glyph cache up to date. A glyph cache is divided into zones, or sub-caches, wherein requests for writing a glyph bitmap to the cache may be handled by destroying or clearing an entire zone. In accordance with other embodiments of the present invention, a highly efficient method of rendering is provided wherein commands are automatically combined and made into larger commands for the GPU. Alternatively, rather than performing a command stream flush upon each intersection, a texture cache flush may be implemented. All source glyph bitmaps may be placed into one texture.
