Patent number: 8159501Abstract: A system and method are provided that allows a speaker to provide real-time annotations to one or more displayed images during a presentation. The speaker inputs the annotations my manually identify a portion of the displayed image using an input mechanism such as a touch screen that is in communication with a presentation monitor and a control system that is controlling the presentation. The identified portions are annotated onto the displayed images using a adaptive color that is selected to provide optimum contrast with the existing colors in the displayed image. In addition to providing adaptive, contrasting colors for the annotations, imperfection such as waviness are removed from the identified portions to created corrected portions that are then annotated onto the presentation image. Annotation is accomplished through computer generated graphics or through the use of a motorized, controllable laser pointer.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 2008Date of Patent: April 17, 2012Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Ravishankar Rao

Patent number: 8149456Abstract: Restriction information on a total colorant amount for a medium is obtained. Patches at grid points in a color space corresponding to a plurality of colorants at which the total colorant amount falls within a restriction represented by the restriction information, and a patch at a point surrounded by the patches are generated. Color values are obtained by measuring the colors of the patches printed on the medium. It is determined based on a color prediction value between the grid points whether the measured color values are appropriate, and if so, a color value at a grid point at which the total colorant amount exceeds the restriction is estimated based on the measured color values. A color separation table is created based on the measured color values and the estimated value.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 2008Date of Patent: April 3, 2012Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Yingying Fan, Kazuhiro Saito, Takayuki Ogasahara

Patent number: 8120616Abstract: A method for selecting a desired color from a screen display using a color selection tool that may appear as an eyedropper. Rather than independently choosing pixels or a matrix of pixels, the user blends a color by selecting pixels using a mouse cursor. In response, the color of each selected pixel is incrementally blended into the current color at a constant rate. That is, each selected pixel is blended with the current color according to a constant blending factor. In this manner, the current color changes at a constant rate with the contribution of each successive pixel. This approach allows the user to gradually blend colors from the screen display, much as a painter would gradually mix colors on a palette.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2008Date of Patent: February 21, 2012Assignee: Autodesk, Inc.Inventors: Nicolas Desjardins, Kuo-Cheng Tong

Publication number: 20110273468Abstract: The present invention relates to a unique color management method for calibrating and characterizing a light mixing system comprising a set of primary light modules emitting self-luminous color primaries, which may be intimately mixed to produce a batch color that matches a standard color. The radiant output of each self-luminous color primary, or channel, is modulated by a setting a light controller to a Digital-to-Analog-Conversion (“DAC”) value. In the event that the radiant output of the color primary channels is non-linearly proportioned to the DAC input values, it is useful to employ an innovative “iterative best-fit” method of simultaneously calculating admixtures of light from all color primaries that match a standard color. Otherwise, a matrix method based on matrix algebra may also be used to create a batch color that matches a standard color. A best fit tristimulus value method or best fit minimum RMSD can be used in conjunction with these spectral color matching methods.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 6, 2010Publication date: November 10, 2011Applicant: Columbia Insurance CompanyInventors: Patrick Tak Fu Chong, Hugh Fairman

Patent number: 8045220Abstract: In creating a color conversion table, search time for searching a point at which a color difference with a target color corresponding to a grid point is minimum can be reduced effectively. In a predetermined grid point constituting a second pre-color processing table, a post-RGB value of a target color of the grid point is determined by interpolation computation using a first pre-color processing table created beforehand. An interpolation operation using each grid point data of a plurality of grid points in the neighborhood in the table is executed, thus the post-RGB value of an object grid point is determined. Next, a neighboring region of the obtained post-RGB value is set, and a post-RGB value of most approximate to the target color in the neighboring region is determined as grid point data of the object grid point.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 2005Date of Patent: October 25, 2011Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Yoshinori Kawai

Publication number: 20110249019Abstract: A projection system includes first and second cameras, a projector, and a processing unit. The first camera captures an object to obtain a first image of the object. The projector projects the first image to a projection region. The second camera captures the projection region to obtain a second image of the projection region. The second image is detected to determine whether a gesture is in the projection region. If a gesture is in the projection region, a number of symbols are transmitted to the projector. The symbols are projected in the projection region to form a number of controlling symbols. The second image is further detected to determine whether one controlling symbol is selected. If one controlling symbol is selected, the processing unit controls the first camera, the second camera, or the projector.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 25, 2010Publication date: October 13, 2011Applicant: HON HAI PRECISION INDUSTRY CO., LTD.Inventor: CHIEN-LIN CHEN

Patent number: 8031203Abstract: In an image processing apparatus, a first conversion unit converts, on the basis of an input device profile, input data into first device-independent data expressed by a color space that is independent of an apparatus. A storage unit stores plural conversion profiles for converting using a color appearance model in the color space that is independent of the apparatus in correspondence with plural device characteristics that are dependent on apparatuses. A selection unit selects a conversion profile corresponding to characteristics of the input device, characteristics of an output device, observation conditions of the input data and the output data. A second conversion unit converts, on basis of the selected conversion profile, the first device-independent data into second device-independent data. A third conversion unit converts the second device-independent data into the output data on the basis of an output device profile.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2008Date of Patent: October 4, 2011Assignee: Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hidetoshi Kawashima, Yasunari Kishimoto, Ryosuke Higashikata, Yasuki Yamauchi, Akihiro Ito, Noriko Hasegawa, Yousuke Tashiro, Kiyoshi Une

Patent number: 8009175Abstract: Improved methods are provided for calibrating color on a color display coupled to a computer, which are useful for obtaining calibrated data in a virtual proof network for enabling different color devices to render consistent color. Methods involve user interactions with screens on the display to set color display parameters. An apparatus is also provided for calibrating a sensor which may be used for measuring color of a display in one or more of these methods.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 2010Date of Patent: August 30, 2011Assignee: Rah Color Technologies LLCInventor: Richard A. Patent number: RE42746Abstract: A process and system for depicting a combination of process colors and spot colors on a radiant light source such as a computer monitor screen. The invention provides a user-definable “meta-ink” color which is made up of the components of the process colors and the spot colors. Shade values are assigned to each of these components to create the meta-ink color. This meta-ink color then replaces the document color for visual depiction on the radiant light source. This process and system provides a more accurate depiction of the representation of the printed image.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 2005Date of Patent: September 27, 2011Assignee: Quark, Inc.Inventors: Timothy Gill, Matthew Phillips, Parviz Banki
