  • Patent number: 6417864
Abstract: When a ferroelectric liquid crystal display (FLCD) panel is addressed in such a manner as to cause adjacent or successive pixels to display different levels of greyscale, the viewer may perceive a pseudo edge effect caused by the perceived error in the transmission level at the transition between the two grey levels. In order to decrease this perceived error, the panel is addressed such that, at the transition between the two grey levels, for example between the grey levels “3” and “4”, the most significant bit of the addressing scheme incorporates an analogue grey level, for example a half level. This results in a perception level exhibiting a lower absolute error in the relative grey level than would be obtained if no special measures were taken to compensate for the perceived error at the transition. This compensation technique is applicable to addressing schemes utilizing temporal dither (TD) as well as spatial dither (SD).

  • Publication number: 20020030690
Abstract: An image is processed by detecting pixel-to-pixel variations in brightness level, generating high spatial frequency information related to the variations, setting interpolation points with a spacing that varies according to the high spatial frequency information, and generating new pixels by interpolation at the interpolation points. By increasing the zoom ratio in one part and reducing the zoom in another part of each edge in a continuous manner, this method can mitigate edge degradation when an image is enlarged or reduced, without introducing discontinuities or other image artifacts. It also provides a convenient way to adjust edge sharpness in an image.

  • Patent number: 6323871
Abstract: A matrix-addressed liquid crystal display device, and its driving method in which pixels to display one color by combining a plurality of basic colors are arranged, the power consumption in a drive circuit system is reduced, and no degradation of the image quality is generated, is characterized by comprising a signal input means N, wherein a large number of pixels are matrix-addressed by a large number of scanning lines G and a large number of signal lines S, combination of a plurality of basic colors are repeatedly arranged along the direction of each signal line, the number of the scanning lines is the number of all pixels arranged along the signal lines, the order of the basic colors arranged along the signal lines is repeatedly the same number along the signal lines, the same basic colors are arranged along the scanning lines, and the signal to be transmitted to each signal line for each scanning line is successively transmitted to a source driver from the source driver Sd.
