Abstract: A method and system for mastering and distributing enhanced color space content for different display devices (target color space) having display capabilities beyond that of CRT color space. The content creator(s) establishes base or reference color space and enhanced color space data for each target color space. The enhanced color space data is stored as metadata and transmitted over an enhanced color channel separately from the base/reference color space. Both the base/reference data and metadata are encoded before transmission and decoded on the consumer side either by a separate decoder or a display device having an integrated decoder. In other aspects of the invention, auxiliary data relating to the target color space, such as, for example, brightness, luminance, contrast and other display settings can be transmitted over the enhanced color channel and decoded to control the target color space settings (i.e., display settings).

Abstract: One embodiment sets forth a method for transforming 3-D images into 2-D rendered images using render target sample masks. A software application creates multiple render targets associated with a surface. For each render target, the software application also creates an associated render target sample mask configured to select one or more samples included in each pixel. Within the graphics pipeline, a pixel shader processes each pixel individually and outputs multiple render target-specific color values. For each render target, a ROP unit uses the associated render target sample mask to select covered samples included in the pixel. Subsequently, the ROP unit uses the render target-specific color value to update the selected samples in the render target, thereby achieving sample-level color granularity.

Control logic of a display device can use content adaptive backlight control (CABC) for displaying certain image frames with reduced illumination intensity. CABC can be used to determine a scaling factor for scaling up pixel values in an image frame and for scaling down the illumination intensity of a backlight used for illuminating the image frames. The control logic can determine a number of image subframes that have been rendered imperceptible to the human visual system (HVS) due to the reduced illumination intensity of the backlight, and refrain from displaying the determined number of image subframes. The techniques may be implemented in procedural painting algorithms that employ a vector-based, fluid motion simulation technique to help achieve dynamic, serendipitous behaviors of painting at good interactive rates even on relatively low-powered devices. Instead of employing polygons in a procedural painting algorithm that are combinations of pigment and water, a technique may be employed in which the polygons are separated into pigment polygons and water polygons. The water polygons are not rendered; only the pigment polygons are rendered. To improve the performance of the wetness determination at vertices of the pigment polygons, a technique may be used that first rasterizes all of the water polygons into a buffer, which may be referred to as a wetness layer or wetmap; the wetness at a vertex is then determined by sampling this buffer or layer at the vertex's position.

At this time, the image data is classified into four colors and converted respectively such that the first color is displayed in a color accurate to the inputted data, the second color is displayed such that saturation of the second color is increased, the third color is displayed using a color gamut of a predetermined range out of the color gamut of the liquid crystal panel, and the fourth color is displayed in a color corresponding to a boundary of the color gamut of the liquid crystal panel.

Abstract: A system and method for digital hair coloring is described. A starting image of a subject including a hair region is obtained. At least one foreground selection of the starting image is obtained, the foreground selection including a portion of the hair region. At least one background selection of the starting image excluding the hair region is obtained. A matte defining a calculated foreground area of the starting image is calculated based on the foreground selection and the background selection. A target color distribution based on a target hair color is obtained. A color image is generated by applying a color transformation based on the target color distribution to at least the calculated foreground area of the starting image. An output image is generated from the colored image and the starting image.

Abstract: The invention relates to a system and a method for visualizing a time-variant parameter at a plurality of positions in a biological structure, wherein a visualization display is configured to display a first representation showing a first visualization parameter at a plurality of time intervals, determined in a first volume between a first and a second boundary of the structure, and to display a second representation showing first and second visualization parameters determined in the first and in a second volume extending between the first and the second boundary of the structure. By providing the user with this combination of the two representations, a higher resolution of data may be processed and meaningfully visualized for intermediate volumes between the first and the second boundary. This is based on the insight that it is desirable to view data between boundaries of a structure as well as at different positions through the structure.

  • Patent number: 8861850
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer readable media for performing color correction operations to address memory color artifacts in a manner suited for real-time operations. In general, techniques are disclosed for correcting memory color rendering artifacts in an image without performing color space conversions. In one implementations, hue-saturation-value (HSV) image correction values may be expressed solely in terms of an image's base red-green-blue (RGB) color space values. Once expressed in this manner, color correction may be applied to the image directly—without the need to convert the image's color space into and out of a working color space (e.g., an HSV color space). As no color space conversions are necessary, the disclosed techniques are well-suited to real-time operations.

Abstract: A solution is proposed that performs global histogramming of pre-regionally-enhanced pixel values accounting for inter-regional illumination contributions to verify that over-saturation of an image is prevented. According to an embodiment, pixel values that have been regionally enhanced—that is, with applied gains calculated for the respective regions—are further added to illumination values corresponding to the pixel values, with the resultant summed pixel values being histogrammed again to determine the amount of over-saturated pixels. An over-abundance of over-saturated pixels results in a calculation of a global modifier applied to each pixel to reduce the number of over-saturated pixels below an acceptable threshold.
