Color Bit Data Modification Or Conversion Patents (Class 345/600)
  • Patent number: 8477371
Abstract: What is disclosed is a novel system and method for generating a color lookup table (LUT) that minimizes interpolation errors over the entire color space, including the off-grid colors. The present method for LUT optimization considers off-grid point errors in assigning entries to the LUT. As described herein further, grid point values are computed that provide a least mean square error solution for the entire printer gamut volume. The present method dramatically reduces errors near the gamut boundary and can be used for populating nodes of any LUT that will be linearly interpolated, not only a table mapping from L*a*b* to CMYK.

The information converting unit converts information into an information expression image formed by a dot arrangement pattern in which information is expressed by arranging a given number or less of dots in a unit display area which is an information unit. The output unit arranges the converted information expression image. The output unit superimposes the converted information expression image on image information. The output unit outputs the superimposed information expression image. In the dot arrangement pattern, the arrangement of the dots is determined so that the number of the dots denoting 1 or 0 of a bit sequence of a given error correction code word is a subset equal to or smaller than the given number, and the dot arrangement pattern is readable by a machine.

Abstract: Techniques for improving the performance of vector-based, fluid motion simulation techniques. The techniques may be implemented in procedural painting algorithms that employ a vector-based, fluid motion simulation technique to help achieve dynamic, serendipitous behaviors of painting at good interactive rates even on relatively low-powered devices. Instead of employing polygons in a procedural painting algorithm that are combinations of pigment and water, a technique may be employed in which the polygons are separated into pigment polygons and water polygons. The water polygons are not rendered; only the pigment polygons are rendered. To improve the performance of the wetness determination at vertices of the pigment polygons, a technique may be used that first rasterizes all of the water polygons into a buffer, which may be referred to as a wetness layer or wetmap; the wetness at a vertex is then determined by sampling this buffer or layer at the vertex's position.

  • Patent number: 8432588
Abstract: A method of mapping colors which are outside a reproduction device's color gamut to reproducible colors uses a boundary of a reduced gamut. In a three-dimensional color space the reduced gamut is derived from the reproduction device's gamut by reducing its size in all three dimensions. Reduced-gamut clipping-vectors are determined by clipping the out-of-gamut colors onto the reduced-gamut boundary, and the out-of-gamut colors are mapped to those colors at which the reduced-gamut clipping-vectors intersect the reproduction device's gamut boundary. Thus out-of-gamut colors associated with clipping-vectors of different directions that are clipped onto the same point, or adjacent points, of the reduced-gamut boundary are mapped to points spaced apart, or spaced farther apart, on the reproduction device's gamut boundary.

Note that “1” here is not a strict value. To be more specific, in contrast to the conventional technique in which correction is performed with the largest value being made equal to about “1,” the present embodiments sets the smallest value at about “1.” This idea itself is a first point which makes the embodiments different from the conventional technique. When doing so, all the correction coefficients are “1” or larger. In the case where a correction coefficient is “1” or larger, when the input is large, the output is saturated.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods are described for encoding and decoding image data for image blocks which form a picture by having a deblocking filter remove coding artifacts caused by local inverse tone mapping for intra-layer texture prediction for bit depth-scalability. A deblocking filter is applied at the enhancement layer for bit depth scalability. The deblocking filter is adjusted to remove coding artifacts caused by local inverse tone mapping for intra-layer texture prediction for the bit depth scalability. The boundary strength of the deblocking filter is adjusted based on a threshold that is based on a difference of inverse tone mapping parameters for the block and at least one adjacent block with respect to the block.
