Patent number: 9273979Abstract: A map navigation tool presents directions using a map navigation user interface that simplifies navigation in various ways. In particular, the map navigation tool uses a destination icon that directs the user towards an end location of a route when the user is close to the end location. For example, the map navigation tool obtains multiple list items of a list of directions. Based at least in part on current location, the tool determines that a destination icon is to be displayed. For example, the tool checks whether the current location is within a threshold distance from or past the end location. The tool then renders the destination icon, which indicates direction towards the end location. The tool can further adjust the destination icon depending on current location, for example, rotating the destination icon or switching between multiple destination icons representing left, right, ahead and behind directions.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2011Date of Patent: March 1, 2016Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Chien-Wen Danny Su, Aarti Bharathan, Adrian Solis, Jonathan Aroner

Publication number: 20150015614Abstract: When a device is rotated from a portrait orientation to landscape orientation, or vice versa, the display device rotates the content items within distinct respective content regions of a page template (“slots”) that each appear to stay in their same position with respect to a frame of reference of the display device. While the content regions stay in their same positions, the content within each content region counter-rotates in place to offset the rotation of the display device. Thus, the content within the content regions maintains an orientation with respect to a constant (non-rotating) frame of reference, regardless of the orientation or rotation of the display device. In one embodiment, a slot's position, height, and width in a template in a second orientation are determined from the slot's position, height, and width in the template in a first orientation.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 1, 2014Publication date: January 15, 2015Inventor: Evan R. The method of the preferred embodiment can include detecting an orientation of a mobile terminal including a user interface disposed on a first side of the mobile terminal, wherein the orientation of the mobile terminal includes an imaginary vector originating at a second side of the mobile terminal and projecting in a direction substantially opposite the first side of the mobile terminal. The method of the preferred embodiment can also include transitioning between at least two viewing modes in response to the imaginary vector intersecting an imaginary sphere disposed about the mobile terminal at a first latitudinal point having a predetermined relationship to a critical latitude of the sphere.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 2011Date of Patent: December 9, 2014Assignee: Aria Glassworks, Inc.Inventors: Terrence Edward McArdle, Benjamin Zeis Newhouse

Patent number: 8907985Abstract: An image display device is configured to cut out and display a moving object within an omnidirectional image. The image display device includes: a moving object position acquisition unit configured to acquire a position of the moving object within the omnidirectional image; a determination unit configured to determine whether to correct an upward direction of a cutout image; a parameter correction unit configured to correct a cutout parameter when the determination unit determines to correct the upward direction of the cutout image; a cutout unit configured to cut images including the moving object out of the omnidirectional image based on the cutout parameter corrected by the parameter correction unit; and a display unit configured to display the images including the moving object, which are cut out by the cutout unit.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 2010Date of Patent: December 9, 2014Assignee: Panasonic CorporationInventors: Hirofumi Fujii, Sumio Yokomitsu, Takeshi Fujimatsu, Takeshi Watanabe, Yuichi Matsumoto, Michio Miwa, Masataka Sugiura, Mikio Morioka

Patent number: 8896601Abstract: A method for projecting geographic data (e.g., latitude and longitude coordinates) from a spherical surface onto a two-dimensional Cartesian space is provided. Such a capability can employ a coordinate testing and transformation method to map the projected geographic data within the two-dimensional Cartesian space so that distances measured on the spherical surface remain relatively consistent with distances measured in the two-dimensional Cartesian space. Further, this capability allows for the use of efficient search algorithms to find projected geographic points within a particular geographic search area.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2011Date of Patent: November 25, 2014Assignee: Google Inc.Inventor: Phil Norman

Patent number: 8890897Abstract: An information processing device is disclosed. The information processing device includes an inclination detection unit configured to generate a first signal regarding inclination of the device. The information processing device also includes a display processing unit configured to, based on the first signal, generate a second signal to initiate a change in orientation of a display of content, and generate a third signal to cancel the change in orientation in response to receipt of a CANCEL command after initiation of the change.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2012Date of Patent: November 18, 2014Assignee: Sony CorporationInventors: Fuminori Homma, Reiko Miyazaki, Shoichiro Moriya, Tatsushi Nashida

Patent number: 8884928Abstract: The ability of a user to provide input when using a touch screen or other such element of a computing device can be improved by correcting for parallax errors. A camera of the computing device can determine the relative position of the user's head or eyes with respect to the device, and determine a viewing perspective of the user with respect to content displayed on the touch screen. Using the perspective direction and information about the dimensions of the touch screen, the device can determine an amount and direction of parallax error, and can make adjustments to remove or minimize that error. The device can cause the position of the displayed graphical elements to shift and/or can adjust the mappings of the touch sensitive regions that correspond to the graphical elements. Such an approach enables the graphical elements and touch mappings to align from the current perspective of the user.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2012Date of Patent: November 11, 2014Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Leo B. Patent number: 8878876Abstract: One exemplary embodiment involves receiving, in an electronic content creation application, provided on a computer device, input for an object of electronic content being edited in the electronic content creation application. The input modifies a position attribute or a size attribute of the object in at least one state of the multiple states relative to bounds that is the same for multiple states of the object. The electronic content creation application determines whether to update the bounds associated with the object based on the input and, if updating the bounds is necessary, it updates the bounds associated with the object and, based on the update of the bounds, updates the position attribute or the size attribute.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2010Date of Patent: November 4, 2014Assignee: Adobe Systems IncorporatedInventors: Winsha Chen, Peter S. Publication number: 20140320535Abstract: A user device uses sensors to determine the rotation of the user device with respect to a reference orientation. Using the user device rotation, an image manipulation module accesses images that are associated with image rotations. A set of the images are selected based on the device rotation to select images that have image orientations corresponding to the device rotation. A weight may be determined for each selected image, and the images are combined to generate a blended image using the weights. The blended image is displayed to the user, and as the rotation of the user devices changes, the process is repeated to display changing blended images based on the device rotation, thereby animating the rotation effect.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 10, 2014Publication date: October 30, 2014Applicant: Flipboard, Inc.Inventor: Charles Ying

Patent number: 8872855Abstract: When the device is rotated from a portrait orientation to landscape orientation, or vice versa, the display device rotates the content items within distinct respective content regions of a page template (“slots”) that each appear to stay in their same position with respect to a frame of reference of the display device. While the content regions stay in their same positions, the content within each content region counter-rotates in place to offset the rotation of the display device. Thus, the content within the content regions maintains an orientation with respect to a constant (non-rotating) frame of reference, regardless of the orientation or rotation of the display device. In one embodiment, a slot's position, height, and width in a template in a second orientation are determined from the slot's position, height, and width in the template in a first orientation.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2011Date of Patent: October 28, 2014Assignee: Flipboard, Inc.Inventor: Evan R.
