  • Patent number: 8125426
Abstract: In an image displaying apparatus, first and second detecting units detect quantities of light propagating through a light path at two different locations. A variation calculating unit calculates the variation in the light quantity in the light path based on the quantities of light detected by each of the first and second detecting units. A controlling unit controls the quantity of light propagated to the screen if the variation in the light quantity exceeds a predetermined value.

Abstract: To provide a pixel matrix and the like, which are capable of improving the picture quality by suppressing generation of flicker and crosstalk without deteriorating the numerical aperture of the pixels and without increasing the manufacturing cost. A first switch device has transistors connected in series. When selected by a gate line, the transistors are set ON simultaneously to apply a voltage, which is supplied from a data line, to a pixel electrode. A second switch device has a transistor and a control capacitor. When selected by a gate line different from the one mentioned above, the transistor is set ON to supply a prescribed potential to a connection point between the transistors of the first switch, and the prescribed potential is stored at the control capacitor. When not selected by the both gate lines, the potential of the connection point is kept to the potential stored at the control capacitor.

Abstract: Drive voltages of a liquid crystal display are adjusted based on one or more environmental conditions. The pixel drive voltages may be adjusted based on temperature. A pixel voltage may be varied such that it is a higher voltage at relatively lower temperatures and a lower voltage at relatively higher temperatures. The window voltage may be varied based on temperature. The window voltage may be stepped through different values within a display phase. The window voltage may be varied during a blanking period of the display phase such that the pixel sees a relatively larger voltage to obtain a desired initial state more quickly. Then, during a light modulating time period, the window voltage may be stepped such that there is a lower voltage field for holding the state of the pixel.

  • Patent number: 8022633
Abstract: In the case where the number of pixels is increased in a display device making use of electron source elements, a period, in which one pixel is caused to continue to emit light, shortened, and so there is caused a need of applying a high voltage between upper and lower electrodes of an electron source element in a short period. Therefore, there is caused a problem that a drive circuit is made severe in operating condition and so the display device is degraded in reliability. Two TFTs are arranged on each of pixels. Also, a time gradation system is used, in which one frame period is divided into a plurality of sub-frame periods, a light emitting or non-emitting state of each of the pixels is selected in the respective sub-frame periods, and gradation is represented by adding up periods, in which the light emitting state is selected in the respective sub-frame periods. Thus it is possible to provide a display device having a high reliability and a method of driving the same.
