Each image forming section forms color patterns on predetermined portions of the conveyance belt on the basis of the synthesized data. The main-scanning directional displacement of each color pattern can be detected by comparing the numbers of those sensed line segments of the patterns which are sensed by a sensor. Then, the image forming positions are adjusted so that the numbers of the sensed line segments will be equal to each other.
