  • Patent number: 6707494
Abstract: An electronic still camera is provided with timing generators in drive signal generating circuitry which are selected to generate various timing signals in accordance with a mode set by mode selection. Two vertical drivers generate substrate potentials defining the signal charge capacity of photo-sensitive cells. In accordance with the mode set, a system controller feeds a mode adaptive selector with a control signal. In response to the mode signal, the mode adaptive selector selects an output from one of the vertical drivers. From the one vertical driver, the photosensitive cells are fed with a predetermined voltage higher than usual as the substrate potential. An image signal obtained is amplified by a signal processing circuit provided in the following stage.

  • Patent number: 6683647
Abstract: A method for driving a CCD solid-state image sensing device. The method is applied to driving the CCD in order to ensure a sufficiently large charge to be handled. In the method, the driving control is performed such that the length of a control interval, which starts from the point in time when a driving voltage is applied to an electrode terminal having the largest time constant (for example, the electrode having the longest wiring line as viewed from the input side of a driving clock, or the electrode laminated at the lowest layer) is more than the length of the other control intervals subsequent to the control interval. Thus, the influence of delay in the rise time of the driving voltage at the electrode which has the largest time constant is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 6661451
Abstract: An imaging apparatus includes an interline type CCD image sensor having 1,000,000 or more pixels, which has a Bayer configuration color filter suitable for reading all pixel signals in a line-sequential scanning manner. The imaging apparatus drives the CCD image sensor in a high speed mode usually, and in a high quality image mode only for a trigger depression. In the high speed mode, the CCD image sensor outputs pixel signals for one line at intervals of three lines in the vertical direction. During the high speed mode operation of the CCD image sensor, images are displayed on a liquid crystal display portion at a frame rate of 60 frames/second, the images being recognized by the human eyes as a dynamic image, i.e., a motion picture.

Abstract: Image capture data is output from an image capture device, e.g., a CCD, at a commanded frame rate. A succession of fields that occur at a field rate are identified. A commanded frame rate that is less than or equal to the field rate is received. Read signals are applied to the image capture device for selected fields of the succession of fields to thereby output image data at the commanded frame rate. The image capture device is shuttered for a shutter interval based on the commanded frame rate to prevent image capture during the shutter interval. According to aspects of the invention, the commanded frame rate is selected such that the field rate is an integer multiple of the commanded frame rate. An image capture apparatus according to the present invention includes an image capture device configured to receive read signals and operative to output image data responsive thereto. Abstract: A solid-state image pickup apparatus includes a color filter including complementary color filter segments. When a shutter release bottom is pressed to its half-stroke or full-stroke position, light incident via the filter is picked up in a movie/photometry or a still picture mode, respectively. While signal charges are read out of an image sensor in accordance with the mode, the signal charges are digitized to become pixel data. In the movie/the photometry mode, despite that a plurality of pixel data are mixed together, a set of primary color pixel data are generated as if pixel signals were thinned out by mixture. In the still picture mode, all the pixels are sequentially read out and interpolated to generate primary color pixel data greater in number than photosensitive cells. The primary color data are raised in frequency to enhance the resolution of a picture.

Abstract: An image sensing apparatus includes a CCD having photodiodes, vertical shift registers, and a horizontal shift register; a signal generator supplying pulses for driving the CCD; a light shading element such as a mechanical shutter which shades incident light to the CCD; and a driver controlling the light shading element. The image sensing apparatus performs high-speed discharging of the vertical shift registers from the starting end of the frame next to a frame where a record trigger is generated, and performs charge storage operation into the photodiodes partially in parallel with high-speed discharging. Further, the image sensing apparatus stops high-speed discharging at the same time as completion of the charge storage operation, furthermore, and completely shades the CCD by performing a closing operation of the light shading element within a residual period of the same frame.

Abstract: The invention is intended to provide a highly integrated solid-state image pickup device, in which the number of transfer electrodes of a horizontal shift register is reduced, and a plurality of vertical shifter registers are arranged with a reduced pitch therebetween. Output-control gate electrodes are disposed at an output end of the vertical shift registers. These output-control gate electrodes are operated independently from vertical transfer gate electrodes, and temporarily reserve information charges. Horizontal transfer gate electrodes corresponding to the vertical shift registers on odd-numbered columns are turned on, so signals charges in these vertical shift registers are read into a horizontal shift register. During horizontal transfer of these information charges, information charges of vertical shift registers on even-numbered columns are reserved, for half of a horizontal scanning period, in output ends of the vertical shift registers by the output-control gate electrodes.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for CTD imaging device multiple read-out speeds with optimized operation at all of the available speeds. Image signals from a CTD imaging device are digitally sampled at a defined frequency with the read-out electronics being matched to the defined frequency for optimum operation at that frequency. Digital samples taken during both a first (reset reference) portion of each image signal and a second (image voltage) portion of each image signal are then discarded if taken during a noisy/unstable part of the image signal or accumulated and averaged if taken during a stable part of the image signal. The accumulated and averaged digital samples are then algebraically combined to produce signals representative of an image generated by the CTD imaging device. The read-out speed of the CTD imaging device is a fraction of the sampling speed and can be selected by setting an integer divisor for the defined sampling frequency.
