Abstract: A Method and apparatus is provided for producing and displaying pairs of spectrally-multiplexed gray-scale or color images of 3-D scenery for use in stereoscopic viewing thereof. In one illustrative embodiment of the present invention, pairs of spectrally-multiplexed color images of 3-D scenery are produced using a camera system records left and right color perspective images thereof and optically processes the spectral components thereof. In another illustrative embodiment of the present invention, pairs of spectrally-multiplexed color images of 3-D imagery are produced within a computer-based system which generates left and right perspective images thereof using computer graphic processes, and processes the pixel data thereof using pixel-data processing methods of the present invention.
Abstract: A three-dimensional picture projecting device comprises a projector for projecting a three-dimensional picture, a screen for capturing the projected three dimensional picture, and a pair of polarizing glasses having left and right polarizing eyepieces with different polarization directions. The projector includes a light source, a focusing lens for focusing the light emitted from the light source, picture forming means for receiving the light from the light source and forming left-eye and right-eye pictures, polarization changing means for making polarization directions of the left-eye and right-eye pictures different from each other, and a projection lens for magnifying the left-eye and right-eye pictures on the screen. Therefore, a three-dimensional picture can be provided with a single projector.
Abstract: An image display apparatus is disclosed which alternately displays an image for the right eye and an image for the left eye on a two-dimensional display and provides a stereoscopic image. A three-dimensional image unit outputs a signal with a shutter control signal superposed on a synchronizing signal or a video signal to a display unit. The display unit provided with an infrared ray transmitting device mounted on the front face thereof separates the shutter control signal from the superposed signal received from the three-dimensional image unit. It alternately displays the image for the right eye and the image for the left eye. The infrared ray transmitting device transmits the shutter control signal. A liquid crystal shutter for the right eye image and a liquid crystal shutter for the left eye image of a liquid crystal shuttered spectacle device are opened and shut in accordance with the shutter control signal.
