Abstract: An imaging apparatus includes first and second polarizers that polarize light from a subject in perpendicular polarization directions. Third and fourth polarizers are alternately disposed in a photodetection plane of an imaging device along a second direction perpendicular to a first direction, along which the first polarizer and the second polarizer are connected to each other, in such a way that the third and fourth polarizers extend in the second direction, and have polarization directions that are parallel to that of the first and second polarizers. An image processor processes image data produced by the imaging device such that image data from light passing through the first and third polarizers are handled as first image data for displaying stereoscopic images and image data from light passing through the second and fourth polarizers are handled as second image data for displaying the stereoscopic images.

Abstract: An imagery axle turning method for stereo vision and an apparatus thereof. The method turns an imagery axle of a stereo vision apparatus to capture images, and constructs a 3D image from the captured 2D images. The imagery axle turning method is realized by rotating the imagery axles of the first lens unit and second lens unit to an angle ?, so as to have different aspect ratios for the first image and second image. Thereby, the 3D image formed from the stereo vision reconstruction steps can achieve a user's expectation of capturing images with an appropriate aspect ratio. This invention also provides specific stereo vision apparatus corresponding to various applications by the imagery axle turning method.

Abstract: There is provided a system and method for counting riders arbitrarily positioned in a vehicle. There is provided a method comprising receiving, from at least one camera filtered to capture non-visible light, video data corresponding to the vehicle passing through a light source filtered for non-visible light, converting the video data into a 3D height map, and analyzing the 3D height map to determine a number of riders in the vehicle. The camera and light source may be mounted in a permanent position using a gantry or another suitable system where the vehicle travels across the camera and light system in a determined manner, for example through a vehicle track. Multiple cameras may be used to increase detection accuracy. To detect persons in the 3D height map, the analysis may search for height patterns indicating heads and shoulders of persons, compare against height map templates, or use machine-learning methods.

Abstract: The data processing unit generates image data such that the camera unit is caused to acquire a plurality of data captured with a focal length changed in response to instructions for imaging operation by an operation unit and three-dimensional display data are generated from the plurality of captured data based on the correlation of focused images which are different according to the focal lengths of the acquired plurality of captured data with the focal length thereof. Since each of the plurality of data captured with a focal length changed is different in a focused image according to the focal length, the plurality of captured data is subjected to the processing for generating three-dimensional display data based on the correlation of a focused image different according to the focal length with the focal length to allow the three-dimensional display data to be generated.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an image processing apparatus and method, and a program capable of displaying a stereoscopic image having a more appropriate parallax. An image capture apparatus 11 captures a plurality of photographic images P(1) to P(N) in a state of being turned around a center of turn C11. In response to an instruction for displaying an image in which a specific region in an area to be captured is displayed, the image capture apparatus 11 selects two photographic images between which parallax having a predetermined magnitude occurs in a subject in the specific region from among photographic images in which the specific region is displayed, and crops regions in which the subject in the specific region is displayed from these photographic images to produce right-eye and left-eye sub-images. These sub-images have an appropriate parallax and therefore are displayed simultaneously using a lenticular method or the like. Thus, a stereoscopic image with depth can be displayed.
