Patent number: 4699479Abstract: Disclosed is an eyeglass frame and method of assembling the same in which a temple includes a pair of parallel ears which extend from one end of the temple. Each ear includes a pin receiving hole, and on the facing surfaces of the ears, a ramped slot extends from the hole to one of the side surfaces. The depth of the slot increases as it approaches the side surface. The lens supporting structure includes a single extension member with a pin supporting hole. The pin is inserted into this hole, and the lens supporting structure and temple are brought together so that the two ends of the pin are aligned with the two slots on the temple. As the temple and the lens supporting structure are urged toward one another, the ears of the temple are forced apart by the ends of the pin until the pin reaches the pin receiving hole at which point the ends fall into the hole.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1985Date of Patent: October 13, 1987Assignee: American Optical CorporationInventor: Richard T. Patent number: 4674147Abstract: This invention relates to a bow and spring hinge assembly for eyeglasses, in which each bow can be opened beyond a stop-defined position so that the bow can resiliently bear on the head of the wearer. The novel assembly can be used also with slender and thin bows and provides for a transverse bracing for eliminating a transverse backlash between relatively slidable parts. For this reason the assembly is provided in the slider and in the bow end portion with recesses, which face each other and each of which is provided on opposite sides with inwardly facing track grooves, and I-section members are provided, each of which is in sliding contact with the track grooves of both said recesses so that said I-section members hold said bow end portion and said slider together against a transverse separation.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1986Date of Patent: June 23, 1987Assignee: Obe-Werk Ohnmacht & Baumgartner GmbH & Co. Patent number: 4617698Abstract: This invention relates to a spring-biased hinge assembly for spectacles. The hinge assembly comprises a bow-side section defining a cavity, and a slider, which carries a bow-side hinge element and extends into the cavity and is adapted to be extended from said cavity against spring action. The bow-side hinge element cooperates with the midportion-side hinge element. The hinge assembly should be slender and should be accommodated to a large extent in the end portion of the bow. For this purpose, the cavity is defined by a flat tubular element, in which a tongue of the slider is slidably mounted. The tongue has a longitudinal slot, in which the return spring extends, which engages an abutment that extends into the wall of the tubular member and through said slot.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1985Date of Patent: October 21, 1986Assignee: Obe-Werk Ohnmacht & Baumgartner GmbH & Co. Patent number: 4494834Abstract: The invention is for an improved hinge for pivotably connecting an eyeglass temple piece to an eyeglass frame, which permits a stable positioning of the temple piece in a folded or closed position in order to conveniently store the eyeglasses and a stable positioning of the temple piece into a normal open position for wearer use of the frame and which permits still further elastic movement of the temple piece beyond the normal open position without damage to the frames or hinge. The improved hinge includes a rod-shaped slide which is slideably mounted in a seat provided in the end portion of the temple piece and which protrudes from the seat. A hole is formed in the slide which extends coaxially in the slide over a predetermined depth from its protruding end. Patent number: 4339179Abstract: An eyeglass frame having open ended rims closed by screw assemblies for clamping lenses therein is disclosed. Each screw assembly comprises a machine screw having a head which defines a bearing surface, a nut threadedly engageable with the threaded shank of the screw, and integrally formed with a lug at one end of the open rim, and an insert member integrally formed with a lug at the other end of the open rim and having a cooperable bearing surface. Dog clutches are formed on the bearing surfaces and preferably comprise alternating projecting portions and recesses in an annular array. The dog clutches normally prevent loosening of the screw assembly by limiting the degree of relative angular displacement between the bearing surfaces, but the gap between the lugs and the resilience of the rims permits unscrewing of the assembly to remove the lens without damaging any of the parts of the assembly.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1980Date of Patent: July 13, 1982Assignee: Essilor International "Cie Generale d'Optique"Inventor: Jean Dany
