  • Patent number: 10861163
Abstract: A system and method for identification and suppression of time varying background objects is disclosed. A proposed surveillance security system includes an image analytics system and at least one surveillance camera. The image analytics system identifies objects within image data of a scene captured by the surveillance camera, and then analyzes the objects to determine whether each object is a foreground object or a dynamic background object. In examples, the image analytics system determines whether an object is a foreground object or a dynamic background object based upon movement and/or an appearance of the object. The surveillance security system does not send alerts to users of the system for objects determined to be dynamic background objects. When users request objects of interest, the dynamic background objects are also excluded from lists of objects sent in reply messages to the users.

  • Patent number: 10627351
Abstract: An inspection method for optical components that can be implemented to conform to performance specification MIL-PRF-13830 in order to grade surface imperfections, in particular scratches and digs. A dark-field microscope obtains a digital image of the component, and this digital image is processed to determine scratch and dig numbers. For scratches, the number is obtained by dividing the total intensity of the scratch by the scratch length. For digs, the number is obtained by determining dig diameter or by dividing the dig's total intensity by its area. According to our extensive testing, this automated digital image processing approach appears to faithfully mimic the subjective impression that a scratch makes on an expert inspector who is applying the visibility test of MIL-PRF-13830.

  • Patent number: 10557794
Abstract: A system and method of non-intrusively measuring characteristics of a fluid in a substrate are provided. The fluid is located in a fluid channel in a substrate, and an electromagnetic radiation source emits an electromagnetic beam toward the fluid and the substrate such that a first part of the beam reflects off a first surface of the substrate and a second part of the beam travels through the fluid and reflects off a second surface of the substrate. A sensor detects the resulting interference pattern produced by the two parts of the beam. Changes in fringes of the interference pattern, such as shifting positions or intensities, relates to a change in the refractive index of the fluid. Since a change in refractive index relates to the density and pressure of the fluid, the changes in interference patterns can be used to discern changes in characteristics in the fluid such as pressure.

  • Patent number: 10317774
Abstract: Single-shot transient optical signals are recorded in a time regime of picoseconds to nanosecond. An auxiliary pump beam is crossed through the signal to sample a diagonal ‘slice’ of space-time, analogous to a rolling shutter. The slice is then imaged onto an ordinary camera, where the recorded spatial trace is a direct representation of the time content of the signal. The pump samples the signal by optically exciting carriers that modify the refractive index in a conventional semiconductor wafer. Through use of birefringent retarders surrounding the wafer, the integrating response of the rapidly excited but persistent carriers is differentiated by probing with two polarization-encoded time-staggered signal replicas that are recombined to interfere destructively.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for non-invasive blood glucose measurement are disclosed. The methods and apparatus utilize exposing a biological object supplied with blood and capable of transmitting infrared radiation therethrough, to an incident beam of polarized infrared radiation with a given angular position of a polarization plane, determining an angular position of a polarization plane of the radiation transmitted through the biological object with a polarizer-analyzer, and measuring an angle shift between said angular positions of the polarization planes of the incident and transmitted radiation, and calculating a glucose concentration C. The methods and apparatus further utilize measuring the length and oscillations of a whisker connected to the polarizer-analyzer and to a rigid support so as to calculate the instantaneous positions of the polarizer-analyzer.

Abstract: A solid-state laser system may include first and second solid-state laser units, a wavelength conversion system, an optical shutter, and a controller. The first solid-state laser unit and the second solid-state laser unit may output first pulsed laser light with a first wavelength and second pulsed laser light with a second wavelength, respectively. The controller may perform first control and second control. The first control may cause the first and second pulsed laser light to enter the wavelength conversion system at a substantially coincidental timing, thereby causing the wavelength conversion system to output third pulsed laser light with a third wavelength converted from the first wavelength and the second wavelength, and the second control may prevent the first and second pulsed laser light from entering the wavelength conversion system at the coincidental timing, thereby preventing the wavelength conversion system from outputting the third pulsed laser light.

The scanner also includes a hardware processor configured to partition the intensities of the reflected wave into a set of segments, such that each segment is the reflection from a corresponding layer of the target object, defining a multi-layered structure of the target object; and reconstruct images of the layers of the target object from corresponding segments using a joint-layer hierarchical image recovery that prevents an increase in sparsity of the layers of the target object in the direction of propagation of the wave. An output interface is configured to render the reconstructed images of layers of the target object.

  • Patent number: 10185033
Abstract: The ACASS 3D LIDAR system operates in a fundamentally new manner combining features of flash LIDARS and scanning LIDARS simultaneously which enables mission and performance trades to be conducted by varying the sizes of illumination patches within the scenes being observed. Further the combination of these modes of operation into a single LIDAR system enables multiple modes of operation and multiple missions to be accomplished with single lasers obviating the need for multiple lasers and enabling significant simplification of beam control modes. Systems which result from the new, expanded size, weight, power, cost trade space enabled by the ACASS concept can provide new levels of performance at significantly reduced risks and costs The achievement of wide area, three dimensional imaging using a LIDAR sensor system is accomplished with one laser which operates using an eye safe fiber laser with very high puke 13 rates but very low energy per pulse.

Abstract: The present disclosure generally pertains to endoscopes configured to utilize a single optical channel for both image extraction and illumination. In certain embodiments, the disclosure contemplates an endoscope configured with a source of illumination outside of the visible spectrum, such as ultraviolet (UV) light, with the endoscope configured to down-convert such illumination into visible light at the distal end of the endoscope. This configuration not only avoids or reduces image flooding caused by the unwanted reflections on optical surfaces within the endoscope relays and objective, but also doubles the effective area of the lenses, thereby allowing higher quality imaging.

  • Patent number: 10113857
Abstract: Presented is an optical coherence tomography system and method to increase imaging depth of optical coherence tomography (OCT) by selective amplification. In a swept-source OCT system with periodically linear wavenumber-vs-time characteristic, the signal in principle is summation of various sinusoidal signals with different frequencies. Each frequency component of the recorded signal carries reflectivity information for a certain depth of the analyzed object. At greater depth inside the analyzed object, the reflectivity information is generally weak due absorption and scattering. An analog or digital electronic circuit selectively filters and amplifies frequencies above some threshold, possibly up to another threshold. In this way, even small signals for relatively larger depths become detectable.
