Abstract: An average size of a plurality of page images is determined, and a size of a first one of the page images is determined. The size of the first page image is compared to the average size. If the size of the first page image is larger than the average size by a first predetermined amount and larger than the average size by less than a second predetermined amount, then the first page image is rotated for printing. If the size of the first page image is larger than the average size by at least the second predetermined amount, then the first page image s divided into multiple pages for printing.

Abstract: The prior art has such a problem that image quality degrades because dots are conspicuous in the case where the size of each dot is not so small and the black or white dots are regularly aligned, in particular, in a bright part close to white or in a dark part close to black. It is determined whether a black or white pixel exists at a point-symmetric position with respect to a notice pixel using pattern matching for a binarized image and in the case where a pixel exists at the point-symmetric position, the notice pixel is replaced with a specific output pattern.

Abstract: A detection apparatus includes the following elements. A first measuring unit measures, from a binary image, density levels of first and second regions which are alternately arranged in a first direction in the binary image, the binary image being disposed on a second surface of a holding member which includes a first surface and the second surface. A storage unit stores therein information indicating an association between a distance from the first measuring unit to the second surface and a contrast between the adjacent first and second regions. A calculator calculates a contrast between the adjacent first and second regions. A detector specifies a distance corresponding to the calculated contrast by using the stored information, and detects a deflection of the holding member in the first direction by using the specified distance as the distance from the second surface to the adjacent first and second regions.

Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods for correcting systematic errors in positional data of electronic devices configured to navigate across a surface. An apparatus configured to correct positional errors may comprise one or more navigation sensors, and a position module configured to control the one or more navigation sensors to capture a plurality of navigational measurements and adjust the navigational measurements by one or more scaling factors to determine a translation path of the apparatus over a medium. The one or more scaling factors may be constructed by capturing a plurality of navigational measurements to determine a detected translation path of an apparatus, comparing an actual translation path of the apparatus to the detected translation path of the apparatus, and generating the one or more scaling factors based at least in part on a difference between the actual translation path and the detected translation path. Other embodiments also are described.

Abstract: A risk of a disadvantage was caused where the entire face of an image subjected to an interpolation or thinning processing causes an increased boundary length between a region including pixels (printing region) and a region not including pixels (paper background region) or causes a broken texture in the image. To prevent this, a transition area is provided in the image so that only the transition area can be subjected to an interpolation or thinning processing.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus receives authentication information about a user who requests a function and determines whether the user needs to be authenticated before executing the requested function. The image forming apparatus then transmits the authentication information to an authentication device that performs authentication of the user, and receives an authentication result from the authentication device indicative of whether the user is authentic. The image forming apparatus executes the function specified in the request only when the authentication result shows that the user is authentic.

  • Patent number: 8610945
Abstract: An image forming apparatus multiplies a first clock to drive the apparatus, thereby forming a second clock, and holds (1) a frequency of a third clock used by a print unit of the apparatus, (2) a magnification setting of the multiplying, (3) a resolution of the print unit, and (4) a micro zoom ratio. The apparatus sets a magnification of the multiplying based on the held values, discriminates whether a pixel is a target pixel to which a micro zoom is executed by using the held micro zoom ratio, and switches a count comparison value of the second clock formed by the multiplying based on the discrimination, thereby forming the third clock. The apparatus then forms a pixel segment based on image data of the target pixel corresponding to the discrimination and inserts the formed pixel segment based on a period of the third clock.

Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide a system that supports printing from a computing device. During operation, the system uses a discovery protocol to identify printers that can be accessed by the computing device. Next, the system receives a selection of a printer that can be accessed by the computing device. The system then generates printer data for the print job. This can be accomplished in a number of ways. The system can use a driverless printing technique, which involves obtaining printer capability information from the selected printer and generating printer data for the selected printer based on the printer capability information. Alternatively, the system can use a printer-specific driver for the selected printer to generate the printer data. The system can also send the print job to a cloud, which includes one or more servers that provide a printing service, so that the cloud can generate the printer data. Finally, the system sends the generated printer data to the printer.
