  • Patent number: 11688575
Abstract: An electrical device includes a fixed support with supply lines and a distribution circuit to supply power to a contactor block. Each contactor block includes secondary lines, each connected to a supply line, and is movable between joined and disjoined positions. Each contactor block includes a switching device for switching all secondary lines of the contactor block between open and closed. The electrical device also includes a control block, movable between joined and disjoined positions. When in the joined position, each contactor block also is held in the joined position, an electronic monitoring device of the control block also being connected to the switching device of each contactor block to control switching of each switching device independently. When the control block is in the disjoined position, the switching device of each contactor block opens the secondary lines, while each contactor block is movable between its joined and disjoined positions.

The panel assembly is pivotable and translatable with respect to the subunit housing. The secondary disconnect assembly is independent from the actuating assembly in order that movement of the electrical contacts does not move the secondary disconnect assembly.

Abstract: An identification system is provided for an electrical system. The electrical system includes a switchgear enclosure, a number of electrical switching apparatus, and a racking mechanism movably coupling the electrical switching apparatus to the enclosure. The identification system includes a control mechanism having a controller and a plurality of software programs. The controller includes a number of inputs from a corresponding one of the electrical switching apparatus, and a number of outputs to the racking mechanism. Each software program provides functionality to the outputs to control racking movement of a predetermined type of electrical switching apparatus. Responsive to the inputs from the electrical switching apparatus, the controller identifies the predetermined type of electrical switching apparatus, and then automatically selects a corresponding one of the software programs to control movement of the electrical switching apparatus.

Abstract: An exhaust system for exhausting gases and molten debris caused by an electric arc within a switchgear. The exhaust system includes a switchgear having lower and upper compartments and an exhaust unit externally mounted to the switchgear. A wall panel of the switchgear includes blow out panels coinciding with openings in the lower compartment and corresponding ventilation flaps in a top surface of the exhaust unit to exhaust gas from the lower compartment out the blow out panels in a vertical direction, exiting through the flaps. The upper compartment includes ventilation flaps for exhausting gas in a vertical direction directly through the flaps and optionally through side-mounted blow out panels that communicate with the vertical vent path to the flaps in the top of the exhaust unit. A bus compartment in the exhaust unit includes a vent path to flaps in the top of the exhaust unit for exhausting gas produced by bus arcing.

Abstract: A power drive stack system comprises a series of power electronic modules, each one of the modules containing power components and module contacts electrically and mechanically aligned for building a portion of a complete AC/DC drive stack. The modules utilize a common set of circuit connection points that are matched to a common set of physical connection points. The modules can be plugged together like building blocks to form a large variety of AC/DC drive stacks that can be tailored to meet an exact system requirement. The drive stack may be used in conjunction with a controller to adjust the torque and speed of an AC/DC electric motor.

Fused load interrupters have not been suitable until now for connecting to vertical busbars in switchgear units. At least one embodiment of the invention provides a fused load interrupter with plug contacts, such as are known from load interrupters with fuses, thereby allowing fused load interrupters to replace the more expensive load interrupters with fuses in switchgear units with vertical busbars.
