Patent number: 4388678Abstract: This invention provides an improved reading or viewing lamp that achieves extraordinary visual acuity when properly used. The lamp employs a quartz-halogen bulb together with a parabolic lens to provide a collimated beam. A light filter removes heat radiation and ultra violet radiation from the beam. A convex mirror reflects the filtered light beam to the reading or viewing area where because of the point source characteristic of the bulb and the remaining optics, the rays are substantially non-crossing and transversely coherent in the reading or viewing area. In one embodiment, the collimated beam is directed vertically and tubular light shield surrounding the collimated light beam and a cylindrical shield around the convex mirror reduces transverse radiation of light to other parts of the room. The shield around the collimated beam also provides a chimney effect which disperses the heat throughout the room to points remote from the reader.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1980Date of Patent: June 14, 1983Inventor: Wheeler M. Turner

The baffle may be plastic or glass with polarizing characteristics and may be flat or curved; it also may be fixed or adjustable.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1977Date of Patent: November 3, 1981Inventor: Sylvan R. Patent number: 4249065Abstract: A bird cage heater includes a housing divided by a partition into an upper lamp compartment and a closed lower control compartment. The upper compartment has reflective internal walls and an open front. An electric light bulb is mounted in the upper compartment. Fastening devices are provided for detachably mounting the housing entirely on the exterior of bird cage with the open front wall facing the interior of the cage so that heat and light produced by the light bulb are reflected through the open front wall into the cage. A thermostat responsive to the temperature of the lower closed compartment controls energization of the light bulb. An indicator lamp is provided to provide indication of the operability of the light bulb filament. A colored light bulb may be used thereby providing a decorative effect in addition to heat.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1977Date of Patent: February 3, 1981Inventor: James F. Malone

Patent number: 4233651Abstract: A work area lighting system is provided including a housing containing a linear light source therein and having an open bottom end. A refractor comprising a pair of refractor plate members closes the open bottom end. The refractor includes a first member having a plurality of spaced prisms extending parallel to the light source and a second member having a plurality of spaced prisms extending perpendicular to the light source. The second member underlies the first member and is approximately one-half its length. The second member is moveably mounted to the housing to enable it to slide with respect to the first member so that different portions of the first member may be covered as desired.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1978Date of Patent: November 11, 1980Assignee: Keene CorporationInventor: William C. Patent number: 4164009Abstract: A light fixture for horizontal or wall task surfaces for office and like interiors adapted to be used with an ambient light system which fixture utilizes a plain rectangular elongated housing for a fluorescent lamp with simplified end brackets which permit the fixture to be mounted directly or indirectly on screens or partitions at any desired elevation, and providing angular adjustment. Direct glare is avoided and veiling reflections reduced by angular selection, lens selection, and recessing the lens within the housing. The adjustment brackets provide precise angular incremental adjustment but are designed to slip if excessive force is exerted on the fixture to avoid damage to the fixture, partition, or screen.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1977Date of Patent: August 7, 1979Assignee: Hauserman, Inc.Inventors: Justin M. Patent number: 4089046Abstract: A lamp for mounting on a music stand having a lower ledge with an upstanding support plate. The lamp has a horizontally elongated base connected to an upwardly extending front upright, having a lamp assembly mounted at its upper end. A downwardly extending rear upright is connected to and spaced rearwardly from the upper end of the front upright by an adjustable connector. The front and rear uprights together form a vertically elongated and downwardly open slot for receiving the support plate of a music stand with the base resting on the lower ledge of the stand. The connector is adjustable to vary the spacing between the front and rear uprights to bring said uprights into abutting engagement with the front and rear sides of the support plate.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1977Date of Patent: May 9, 1978Inventor: William P.
