Abstract: A cable receiving apparatus include a hollow base defining a through hole, a hollow conduit including a threaded end. The threaded end passes through the through hole and engages a nut to connect the hollow conduit to the hollow base. The threaded end defines a first slot for a cable running through the hollow conduit to enter the hollow base. In this way, during the assembly process, operators can assemble the cable first, then use a socket wrench to screw the nut directly.

Abstract: A light fixture and method for producing downward-propagating illumination are disclosed. A downward-facing panel may produce diffuse light. The panel may be generally flat and may have an indentation, where the indentation may have a lining that also produces diffuse light. The panel and the lining may have essentially the same luminance, so that the indentation may be less visible for orientations other than directly below the indentation. The fixture may have a downlight recessed into the indentation, which may produce a directional beam that emerges downward from within the indentation. The directional beam may have a brightness controllable separately from the diffuse light, such as a dedicated dimmer switch. The indentation may be at the center of the panel. The panel may be incorporated into a ceiling tile, and may be bundled as part of a kit that can also include ceiling tiles with panels that don't have a downlight.

Abstract: A light fixture mounting post includes an upper threaded portion for attaching the post to a light shade and a lower portion having a multiplicity of sequential taper threaded segments for attaching light fixtures to the post. The upper threaded portion has left handed threads, and an O-ring and a shaped rubber washer residing between a post nut and the shade. A post flange limits the insertion depth of the upper threaded portion through the shade. The taper threaded segments include right handed pipe threads for tightly engaging the light fixtures and reduced thickness spaces separating the taper threaded segments allowing easy shortening of the lower portion. An unthreaded shoulder adjacent to one of the reduced thickness spaces lengthens the separation of the taper threaded segments below the unthreaded shoulder from the taper threaded segments above the unthreaded shoulder which facilitates the attachment of known light fixtures.
