Refractor Structure Patents (Class 362/520)
  • Patent number: 7726859
Abstract: A lamp unit of a vehicular headlamp includes a projection lens with an optical axis; a light source formed from a semiconductor light-emitting element; a first reflector that reflects light from the light source so as to condense such light on or near the optical axis; and a shade positioned between the light source and the projection lens so as to extend along the optical axis direction. The shade shields part of the light reflected by the first reflector. In the lamp unit of the vehicular headlamp, a shielding surface extends rearward from a front end of the shade, where the shade is positioned near a rearward focal point Rf of the projection lens. The shielding surfaces serve as a second reflector that reflects light from the first reflector toward the projection lens.

  • Patent number: 7648262
Abstract: By a convex lens arranged on an optical axis extending in a front and rear direction of a lamp unit, direct light from a light emitting element arranged rearward of the convex lens is deflected to emit so that the light is made to be parallel light in a vertical face and diffused light toward left and right sides in a horizontal face. An entire region of a left side lens region of the convex lens is constituted as upper deflecting regions for deflecting light to a direction upward with respect to a direction of light of a right side lens region. Light emitted to the front side by transmitting the respective upper deflecting regions is made to be light directed upward from light emitted from the right side lens region to thereby form a laterally elongated light distribution pattern in which an upper end edge of a portion of being disposed on a left side relative to the optical axis is stepped up from an upper end edge of a portion thereof disposed on a right side.

Abstract: A rearview mirror (01) for a vehicle with a partly transparent reflective element (03) for observing the traffic behind has at least one signaling mechanism with light-emitting lighting device (05, 07) provided on the rear side of the reflective element (03). The light of the signaling mechanism is radiated at a specific angle of radiation in a predominant direction (13, 14), so that the lighting strength on the front side of the reflective element (03) depends on the viewing angle relative to the predominant direction (13, 14). An optical convergent lens (11), which collects the light signals of the lighting device (05, 07) and deflects them in the direction of the predominant direction (13, 14), is arranged between the lighting device (05, 07) and the reflective element (03).

Abstract: A projector-type vehicle headlamp includes a light source which is a line light source extending in a width direction of a vehicle, a reflector, a first auxiliary reflector disposed below the reflector, and a second auxiliary reflector disposed on a front side of the first auxiliary reflector. A sectional shape of a reflecting surface of the first auxiliary reflector taken along a vertical plane that is parallel to an optical axis is a shape of a parabola having an axis line downwardly extending in a forward direction a predetermined downward inclination angle with respect to the optical axis. A sectional shape of a reflecting surface of a second auxiliary reflector taken along the vertical plane is a straight line downwardly extending in a forward direction at a downward inclination angle which is smaller than the predetermined downward inclination angle.

Abstract: A light transforming method and device that includes a lens having one or more specifically shaped surfaces designed to generate an output image by directing the appropriate amount of electromagnetic energy from a pseudo-collimated beam to the required regions of the output image for the purpose of recreating the output image. An LED is collimated to produce the minimum spot size at the projection plane reasonably achievable and the pseudo-collimated light source impinges on the image shaping lens surface(s) such that the light is redistributed in correct proportion and angle to generate the predetermined output image. The image generating surface of the present invention is defined by a multitude of triangular facets that define a free-form surface shape such that when the energy distribution pattern exits the free-form surface the output image closely resembles the required output distribution pattern.

Abstract: The headlamp assembly having low beam and high beam operation modes includes a light source, a reflector surface adapted to reflect light from the light source outward to a condenser lens positioned at a distance from the light source. An opaque shield is positioned between the light source and the condenser lens and is moveable between a first position, where a portion of the reflected light is blocked from reaching the condenser lens, and a second position, where substantially all of the reflected light is allowed to reach the condenser lens. The condenser lens has a first segment and a second segment wherein, when the opaque shield is in the first position, light is reflected almost entirely to the first segment of the condenser lens, and when the opaque shield is in the second position, light is reflected to the first and second segments of the condenser lens.

The rear face 34a has a cylindrical surface that extends in the lateral direction, and the curvature of a convex curve, which forms the cross-sectional shape of the cylindrical surface taken along the vertical plane parallel to the optical axis Ax, gradually reduces according to the increase in the distance from the optical axis Ax in the lateral direction, thus allowing the curvature of the convex curve to be maintained at a substantially constant value in the lateral direction and further preventing the diffusion angle of the light into the lens in the vertical direction from increasing in the lateral direction.
